I had this same issue with RoF when trying to change the zoom key to use JUST the mousewheel, not SHIFT+Mousewheel.

But now, with BoS, it seems a lot more of my keybinds aren't having any effect. I still can't get the zoom keybind to only require the mousewheel, I can't unbind throttle from the mousewheel (i moved them to W and S), and my free look keybinds aren't having any effect either (ive set it to 2 seperate keys, mouse button 3 and C.)

What gives here? Why are half of my keybinds not working?

Thank you for your help.

hmm odd..

I deleted All game bindings and remapped all of them to where i wanted no problems.

Are you running game as Administrator.
Is the game installed in C:\programs files or programs files X86

The game is launched from steam, so running game as administrator isnt really an option. Shouldn't be an issue anyways since the game launches and runs just fine. Its just for some reason changing the keybinds for zooming have zero effect.

This is getting seriously frustrating. I've tried changing the zoom button to other keys than just my mousewheel as well and nothing works. Changing the free look button does nothing either, I can only do it by holding the right mouse button.

Is there a cfg file somewhere that I can try and change? I'm running out of ideas and I'm going to refund this game if I can't get something as simple as a zoom keybind to work.

The game is Not always launched from steam many people have the stand alone non steam version also..

All games under steam can be run as admin and many in fact require it.
Specially if you install Steam or your game in C:\programs files or programs files X86

(NEVER install steam or games here under windows 7/10 unless you running windows as admin and have disabled UAC, even then windows often restricts changes to any files in these folders)
i would Recommend a folder like C:\Games\Steam or Simply C:\Steam (tho best would be another partition entirely like D:\Steam

There is a config file but cannot really be edited easily and lots in there.
X:\Games\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\data\input
or Steam
Steam\Steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input

Honestly it sounds like a file admin rights problem and they are not saving.

Or the file is set to "read only"!

Axiom,

I did a test an is possible remap zoom (In Pilot Head) from "LShif+mouse_axis_ z" for "mouse_axis_ z" (BTW - Find zoom with scroll very awkward).

My game is STEAM version but installed in D:\Steam Library\

Try edit the file "current.actions" - if are Windows permission issue you will not able to save. I use Notepad ++ to edit.

.....\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input\current.actions

Line 65: bc_head_zoom,                                  key_lshift+mouse_axis_z,                          0| // Pilot head: zoom
Line 65: bc_head_zoom,                                  key_lshift+mouse_axis_z,                          0| // Pilot head: zoom

Just remove the "key_lshift+".

Thank you for all the attempts to help everyone.

Sokol1, I tried the method that you mentioned and had partial success. Finding this cfg file and changing all the problem keybinds (which are zoom, freelook, and throttle on mousewheel), I was able to change 2 out of the 3 of these problems.

Changing free look to mouse button 3 and the C key worked fine, although holding right mouse when the key is bound to mouse button 3 causes some weird issues, like the game thinks its still bound to right mouse button for about 1 second and then forgets, causing the view to snap back to center every second. When its bound to the C key there are no problems with the right mouse button still effecting free look.

Removing the engine throttle from the mousewheel worked fine. Before, the setting could be changed in game and end up working, but then the next time the game was loaded it would set the bind back to the mousewheel. Changing it in the cfg caused the setting to be remembered the next time I loaded up the game.

And finally, the head zoom. This didnt work at all. I've no idea why, I removed the shift modifier and the wheel still does nothing. I even tried binding the Zoom In and Zoom Out keys to 2 seperate buttons on my mouse, but they still did nothing. Pressing the NumPad + and - keys causes the zoom to work, but using this method, any changes that are made to the FOV Speed and Inertia sliders don't actually make or have any effect. It still zooms very slowly.

It's worth noting, that I tried changing the input setting from mouse to joystick just to see what would happen. All of these problem keybinds worked as you would expect them to when I did this. The mousewheel zoomed without shift modifier, the FOV and Inertia changes had effect, the Zoom In and Zoom Out keys could be bound to 2 different mouse buttons, all of these problems were non existent.

I'm going to try reinstalling the game in a different directory, but in the meantime are there any other ideas to get the zoom in mouse mode to be re-bindable?

Reinstalling the game onto a different drive had no effect on all the problems I'm experiencing.

After watching this youtube video I've learned that the mouse aim mode is really an experimental, unfinished system. It's been in this same experimental, broken state for 2 years now. I'm a bit dissapointed the devs make no mention of this on their store/steam page, you really can't play this game without a joystick. If I had known that, I wouldn't have bought it.

I submitted my refund request today. But I wanted to say thanks to the community for attempting to help out. Cheers.
