You have the following under your homing beacon section.

3. Place an icon translator (pg. 255) near the beacon and do the following in the advanced properties: •

In the Coalitions table, set the friendly coalitions to True and the enemy coalitions to False. •

Set the name and the other advanced properties appropriately.

What purpose does the Icon serve/how does it relate to the beacon?

Also the beacons have call-signs...is there a way I can get audio/radio messages to happen or is the call-sign basically without function?

I'd assume it's to have the beacon appear on the briefing map (for only friendly pilots)?

Otherwise, my homing beacons "just work" (so long as I give it the '1' frequency, if memory serves).

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm waiting patiently for the day the devs implement the already-in-the-sodding-game ability to give different frequencies to different beacons!

Fun fact: If you name your icon using the acronym "NDB" it will appear in plain words in the game ("Non-Directional Beacon", or something like that)

As No601_Swallow mentions, the icon marks the beacon on the map for friendlies only. I made a note to myself (one of 210) awhile back to mark step 3 as optional and explain the purpose of the icon translator in this case.

I had a procedure in the draft manual to make a ground controller report enemy planes in an area, which used a beacon, but it stopped working for me. Juri_JS later reported that the procedure actually works, so I made a note to test it and put it back in the manual.

Thanks for the help peeps.

Jim, yeah I'll be able to make use of that ground controller/report function as soon as Kuban hits.
