Bearfoot Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 This is great stuff -- really riveting! Thanks for sharing.
Bando Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Did you see the sweat on the sleeping sailor? It must have been very hot in those days aboard these steel monsters.
pilotpierre Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Did you see the sweat on the sleeping sailor? It must have been very hot in those days aboard these steel monsters. It was still very hot sleeping in hammocks in non air conditioned carriers in the tropics in the 60's I can assure you. We had 2 - HMAS Sydney and Melbourne, both WWII era designed for colder climates. Sydney was converted to a troop carrier for Viet-Nam operations and we did the last run in 72.
Finkeren Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Great selection of pics. It's funny to see Hellcats and Helldivers in pre-autumn 1943 markings. Apparently none of those planes were going on combat missions anytime soon. The Hellcat only got its combat debut in September, and the Helldiver not until November.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) Hey, does this mean we'll get the P-47 to fly off carriers? http://ww2db.com/images/50f90244a0fff.jpg BTW, that's an escort carrier. Edited June 23, 2017 by 12.OIAE_Stick-95 1
