JV44Svejk Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I've been following the Zenimax lawsuit (well, lawsuits now) and seems to me that Zenimax is not interested of perfecting the technology but get as much money as possible from the competition and given the really sluggish sales of VR hardware the final result maybe the death of it. What do you think guys? http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-zenimax-oculus-vr-lawsuit-explained-2017-2/#august-2013-oculus-vr-a-startup-working-on-a-virtual-reality-headset-called-the-rift-hires-doom-creator-john-carmack-of-id-software-as-its-chief-technology-officer-1 https://www.gamespot.com/articles/after-winning-lawsuit-against-facebook-zenimax-sue/1100-6450066/

They seem like a leach.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Not a chance. VR is here to stay. Oculus is not the only VR headset around. Even for the PC market it is well behind the HTC Vive on market share.
JG4_Sputnik Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Where did you get the "fact" that VR is selling sluggish? My sources (https://www.polygon.com/e3/2017/6/8/15761548/virtual-reality-e3-2017) say that both valve and oculus sold a good amount of units: "Vive, Oculus and PlayStation, all say they're happy with where things are and that internal expectations were exceeded."
OrLoK Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Oculus may have some troubles but VR is firmly entrenched now IMHO.
chiliwili69 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) I also think VR is here to stay. Lawsuits has been always around in many products (including first planes) and in one way or other nothing can stop the technology development. But the reasons for me are two: - Kids love that - Older kids love that too Note: an old kid is 16 year old and above (including myself at 47) Current technology is expensive and require powerfull PCs. But mass production and competition will guarantee lower prices. For reason 1, I will tell you just one personal experience I did with the 10th birthday of my soon. Instead of inviting all kids of the classroom to the typical party-parks with all the parents as well, I told to my soon: "Look, this year you will do the old style, you will invite just 5 friends to home and will eat a cake. And we will have a 6 players match of VR SmashBox". For the first time, there were something as cool as playing futbol (soccer) for those kids. One of them at the end of the birthday said "it is the best birthday party I have ever gone" For reason 2, just view the % of old-kids BOS players who want VR: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/27278-about-vr-and-vr-devices-used/ Edited June 30, 2017 by chiliwili69
Mabroc Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 PlayStation VR sold more than 1 million units in a short time, SAMSUNG Gear VR and Google VR headset are selling well too. Microsoft is pushing for it too plus Augmented Reality. And everyone is «forgetting» what's the single thing that customers are demanding more and more and pushing the technology. Porn, Im not joking about it. Look for news about VR porn. Yes, the entry level headsets with phones are not yet to a good flight simulator level but they keep pushing the technology upwards
Lusekofte Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Personally I was kind of expecting more, the one weekend I had it available borrowing my sons pc I had a feeling it could be so much more. I am hoping for a VR device suited for flight simulators, and I need one with better resolution for instruments in DCS . I might have a view problem, I feared not use my glasses inside the OR since I read they can make scratches, but my reading view is excellent. I do not think VR is about to die, but the demand for evolvement is much more presence today than before. VR need to get better, in order to be truly a alternative for a good screen. I compared the VR against my sons new high resolution Screen and atm I am more into a good expensive screen, at least in DCS. The feeling flying in VR is however a good and solid security for it has come to stay, no doubt Edited June 25, 2017 by 216th_LuseKofte
