Hey all!

I am relatively new to IL-2, so I am sure I am going to make some stupid points in this topic, anyway.

Note - I am not new to joysticks and simulators, it is just my first time with the game.

I recently bought the game at a games store, entered the disk and code on steam, installed it and started it with little to no issues what-so ever. As I started the game and entered a quick battle to get the feel of the game and see how aircraft fly. Having gone over the controls in the menu, I made sure everything looked correct, so I just expected I had to change something in the sensitivity. As I got in, it automatically increased the engine to emergency power and pulled the nose of the aircraft vertical. I changed some more settings and even looked online for any ideas. I found one to test if the joystick was operating by going into the controls settings, and sure enough, neither the throttle nor the joystick responded to the tests. They are both online, in good condition, and plugged into my computer. I continued to fiddle for about an hour and a half plus with no joy. In still responds and can be calibrated in other games, and even in windows settings, but I cannot get it to work in game.

Can anyone suggest anything, or knows how to fix this issue? Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers boys. :salute:

This X joystick is "problematic" in this game (may due their console compatibility - check if the select switch is in PC position), try installing this drivers suggested in this topic:

And before try in games test the joystick in Windows Games Controller - in Windows Start/Cortana box type: joy.cpl and hit enter, if joystick is correctly installed will appear there and in properties can be tested.

I had the same problem.

After trying every possible solution I could think of, I launched the game through the 'exe' in the game folder instead of Steam. The Hotas works perfectly fine for me now.

I don't know what in Steam could be causing the issue, but I hope it can be fixed soon.

Cheers.

EDIT: I went to the controller settings in Steam and Steam recognizes the Hotas as an unknown gamepad. I'd assume that this is what is stopping it from working in-game. I'll try to find a fix and update this if I do.

UPDATE: I turned off 'Generic Gamepad Configuration Support' in Steam>Settings>Controller>General Controller Settings. The flight stick works flawlessly now.

G'day all!

Just a quick update on what is happening.

Thank you guys so much for helping me with this. Shrimp, that configuration wasn't even on in the first place, so I'm not sure about that. After I got it working, which was after I downloaded the Hotas X software, which made it run very smoothly, I ran it straight through the .exe and it worked like a dream, minus the throttle which was reversed. I just went into settings and made the joy_axis0 to -joy_axis0, and this fixed it.

Thankyou so much for helping boys.

Happy flying!
