Check your CPU Coolers

Bought a prebuilt Motherboard bundle (MB/CPU/Cooler/Ram) from judging from the reviews a respectable company.. Only to recently have issues with high CPU temps under load.

After some investigation I found the source of the trouble, the "tech" (probably / hopefully just someone helping out) used copious amounts of thermal paste...  :o:

So if you have bought a bundle or a custom PC it might be worth your while to check the amount of paste between your CPU and heatsink  :salute:

I built mine myself :)

I was going too but it was actually cheaper to buy the motherboard bundle

I bought my new R5 1600x as part of a cpu/mobo/ram bundle, but it was all in separate boxes. Had to buy a CPU cooler separately. On the bright side, you know they didn't cheap out on the paste. Gave ya at least 3 servings! :P

That's quite a bit of TIM. I'm glad I build my own closed loop.

Bought a new watercooler and cleaned off all the old paste! Temps are all good now! Doesn't go above 60!  :salute:

You lot need to get a basic cheap closed loop liquid cooler.

Hard to beat these temps on a fan (granted only idling at server screen)

My previous CPU cooler had these plastic fasteners and few months after use i had some problems with game performance, i then noticed that my CPU temperature was about 99-100c while playing and when i opened the  computer case 3 out of 4 fasteners were broken. I replaced it with Thermalright HR-02 cooler which has steel fasteners. Not gonna buy coolers with plastic fasteners anymore.

I admit to wanting the Corsair H80i V2.

I just need the 6600K that goes with it. :)

I have this three pounds Noctua NH-14 I got six years ago.

It's a heavy beast and takes all the space in my full tower, but I didn't see the temperature go over fifty degrees Celsius.

Its a classic. Great cooler if you have the room for it!

I think it needed more paste, not less.

Well if the cooler is seated properly then there's only room for a micro-thin layer.

Too much paste reduces thermal wicking.

Yep, when I was a kid I used to spread the paste over the CPU like a right idiot and then soon after I learned to just use one small blob and the compression from the cooler clips moves that small blob all over the cpu without mess :)
