Bullets Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Bought a prebuilt Motherboard bundle (MB/CPU/Cooler/Ram) from judging from the reviews a respectable company.. Only to recently have issues with high CPU temps under load. After some investigation I found the source of the trouble, the "tech" (probably / hopefully just someone helping out) used copious amounts of thermal paste... So if you have bought a bundle or a custom PC it might be worth your while to check the amount of paste between your CPU and heatsink
Bullets Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 I built mine myself I was going too but it was actually cheaper to buy the motherboard bundle
BeastyBaiter Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) I bought my new R5 1600x as part of a cpu/mobo/ram bundle, but it was all in separate boxes. Had to buy a CPU cooler separately. On the bright side, you know they didn't cheap out on the paste. Gave ya at least 3 servings! Edited June 15, 2017 by BeastyBaiter
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 never bought a pre-built or second had PC so never had this problem.
Jade_Monkey Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 That's quite a bit of TIM. I'm glad I build my own closed loop.
Bullets Posted June 17, 2017 Author Posted June 17, 2017 Bought a new watercooler and cleaned off all the old paste! Temps are all good now! Doesn't go above 60!
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) You lot need to get a basic cheap closed loop liquid cooler.Hard to beat these temps on a fan (granted only idling at server screen)FX8350 @ 4.4Ghz (Idle 22*C load 40*C) Edited June 17, 2017 by =R4T=Sshadow14
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 My previous CPU cooler had these plastic fasteners and few months after use i had some problems with game performance, i then noticed that my CPU temperature was about 99-100c while playing and when i opened the computer case 3 out of 4 fasteners were broken. I replaced it with Thermalright HR-02 cooler which has steel fasteners. Not gonna buy coolers with plastic fasteners anymore.
CanadaOne Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I admit to wanting the Corsair H80i V2. I just need the 6600K that goes with it.
Jaws2002 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I have this three pounds Noctua NH-14 I got six years ago. It's a heavy beast and takes all the space in my full tower, but I didn't see the temperature go over fifty degrees Celsius.

Guest deleted@30725 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I think it needed more paste, not less.
Gambit21 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Well if the cooler is seated properly then there's only room for a micro-thin layer.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I think it needed more paste, not less. Too much paste reduces thermal wicking.
Guest deleted@30725 Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Too much paste reduces thermal wicking. Yep, when I was a kid I used to spread the paste over the CPU like a right idiot and then soon after I learned to just use one small blob and the compression from the cooler clips moves that small blob all over the cpu without mess
