HagarTheHorrible Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Will BoS be a nibble or a munch, a shuffle or a leap. Is it a http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=c8zTHS9r6E4 or a The original IL2 was a leap forward for flight sims, the same might be said for RoF (warts and all) will BoS be the same jump forward or will it just advance by little baby steps from where RoF left off ? What next leap might flight sims realisticly take that it might be said to be genre defining, (the Rift might do that but what about within the genre itself ?)
FuriousMeow Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) Il-2 was a leap forward? I'm not sure, I was playing Aces High around that time and it (AH) had a better FM. I think you mean to say, it was better boxed game than the ones currently on the shelves. But a leap I don't quite consider it so. Edited December 10, 2013 by FuriousMeow
W1ndy Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) I was thinking tic toc when I first took the LaGG up in the first access. Is it Tic or Toc that is the leap forward? Anyway it seemed like that to me. As we become more accustomed to it there will be more and more threads arguing about the FM , but in general I think we have gone through a threshold in the sense of taking an aircraft up. Bos + Occulus = Tic, Toc, Ding ! Edited December 11, 2013 by W1ndy
Maico Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 The original IL2 Stormovik was the biggest leap forward flight sims ever have had. Now everything in life is comparative. At the time of the original IL2 the thing to fly was MS Combat Flight Simulator and then MS CFS 2. Both were inadequate compared to IL2. Then MS tried again with MS CFS III. What a flop! The flight sim community got onboard the Oleg train and never looked back as he kept releasing free content. Never in the field of flight sims has so much been given to so many for so few It started out with a few aircraft and soon there were dozens. All for free in nearly monthly patches. Then came the addons like PF and FB. Online is was a winner, offline it was a winner. Want to skin? Go for it! Create missions or complete Careers? No problem. Back in 2001 till about 2006 IL2 was the most advanced sim there was. Lock On in 2003 was good but nowhere near in content or playability. IL2 is still today the benchmark by witch I judge virtual air combat. In the latest patch you can climb into the cockpit and do battle 32 vs 32 in QMB. That is a sea of aircraft and you will be lucky to survive. No other simulation has ever come close to it and it looks like none ever will in terms of content. Them days is over. Now it is a new age and what is here is RoF, Clod and now BoS. I really like RoF! CloD is awesome with the new patches from TF. What a new and great game that is. BoS promises to be yet again an awesome sim. The devs can learn from the lessons laid before them by the aforementioned Sims. IL2 Rules Maico 2
dburne Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Imho, the original IL-2 at the time of release, set a whole new bar for combat flight sims, especially WWII, that it still looked at as " the bar" even today. 1

It provided the feeling of flight and combat like no other sim before... I believe BOS will be evolutionary... Ahead of the competition and certainly better than the now dated IL-2 but it won't be as monumental per se... No doubt it will be great though... It looks great already.

I'm not sure, I was playing Aces High around that time and it (AH) had a better FM. Hahaha. You are a fun one. I played ah since 2000 and the only thing that kept my subscription paid was the massive multilayer aspect of it. After il2 was released it gradually took most of my playing time. I'd still go play AH from time to time, until around 2004, trying the new patches hoping for less bias bull$it. Got tired of easy ride us planes, got tired of automatic everything, got tired of the retarded 400 mph buffs outrunning all the interceptors at altitude. AH is a game made for lazy allied fans, that don't want any kind of challenge. Spawn a formation of B'17s, on a runway that points towards the enemy, push full power and go do your laundry.Come back 20 minutes later, your formation is 30+k in enemy teritory, still doing full power, all you have to do is hit level autopilot, "calibrate" the gun sight with one click and hit the hq building perfectly dead center with all the bombs. In the way back, shoot five interceptors that struggle to catch up with the mighty power of the death star, then land five kills like a hero. That crap gets old quick. Praising Aces High, for anything other than massive multilayer aspect?...... .....hahahaha. Edited December 12, 2013 by Jaws2002
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I flew AH with the Avengers but IL2 grabbed my attention more. I think those guys still fly it. I couldn't get them over to IL2. push full power and go do your laundry Hehe, True.

After your whine and the typical Allied bias whine, it shows exactly what you are. I played plenty of Axis planes and they were very good. The rest of your whine is just that.
