yep, the first one is astonishing, I recommend trying it with your eyes closed, it's gonna freak you out!!! 

 

This is from 2004, I wonder what happened to this technology? I suppose you couldn't ask for better for movies really!

 

I don't know how easy it would be to apply it to a simulator though: in order to make it work properly you should consider a binaural setup, because as you move your head your perception of sound will change (in fact, try to move your head whilst listening to the audio above with your eyes closes, your brain sort of tricks you, but it doesn't always work).
