Hi guys.

Very much a noob to IL-2, so please bear with me.

I fly in VR, and am having a spot of bother with a few things:

1. Don't know how to disable that stupid blue circle around me.  I'm assuming it's IL-2 as I don't have it in DCS or ED.  Is there an easy solution?

2. I see that the "zoom" command is mapped to the Keyboard+ button.  As I fly a CH HOTAS solution (Fighterstick, Throttle and Pedals), I'd like to map it to a button on my fighterstick.  Just doesn't seem to want to playball.  I've tried just re-assigning in the IL-2 settings.  Allows me to map it, but doesn't work.  Also tried re-assigning the key on the keyboard and using the CH mapping tool.  Also doesn't work

3. Haven't worked out how to move my pilots head location backwards and forwards in the cockpit (as above).  Is this even possible?

I have tried searching on the above, and haven't found anything.  Thoughts?

Lastly, I'm trying to learn the basics of the flight models.  Took up the Stuka for a look around and was promptly straffed even though I'd picked an airfield as far back as possible.  What's the best way to find a place to just practice take off and landing.  For ref, I'm trying to do that in Expert mode as I'm reasonably proficient in DCS at basic flight manoeuvres, if not ACM.

1: That is the Steam VR Chaperone. See here on how to disable.  https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/5jgg0w/how_to_disable_chaperone_in_steam_vr/

A bit of a pain but can be done. I myself just left it on, have gotten to where I hardly notice it anymore.

2: There is a specific VR Zoom feature in the controller setup menu. It is listed as " VR Camera Zoom" and is listed under pilot head control category. It can be assigned to a button there, press and hold for VR Zoom.

3: There is a re-center VR view option in the same category as above , listed as " Default VR View ". Can assign that to a button as well, very handy. As far as moving and saving your position , if you want it different than the default, probably need to launch the game without VR and do it from monitor using the standard move commands and then save command.

Best place to practice? Why from the comfort of your desk chair of course...

I myself just got into some of the instant action missions and kept flying them.

And welcome to the forums!!

For practice, I'd avoid MP (or spawn at an airfield far from the front). That would leave the SP "Quick Mission" generator, with a runway start and no opposition, or a "campaign" mission. Just start it up and ignore the mission itself, or have a look in the Mission Making room. There's a "Mission Sharing" thread that has a variety of SP and MP missions that users are making and uploading. There are also some great "Scripted Mission" campaigns. Again, you could start the mission and then ignore it and just fly circuits around a (hopefully) nicely populated airfield! Lots to try out!

Thanks for the replies guys.  Just looking at the "VR Camera Zoom" and it says that is's assigned to the "hold" key.  Whilst I'm already sounding a bit stupid, just where is that on a keyboard?

No, that just means you have to hold the assigned key for the zoom to work, and when you release it it will unzoom.
