dburne Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 So in other news... Samsung, who makes the displays for both Rift and Vive, are currently working on the next gen display that will reportedly have nearly 3.5x more pixels than current generation. http://www.roadtovr.com/samsungs-new-vr-display-nearly-3-5x-pixels-rift-vive/ It is looking like the next generation will certainly have a significant improvement in resolution and lowering of SDE. I myself being a huge VR enthusiast am very exciting about the next generation of headsets.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I looking forward for times when they hit mass market.
dburne Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 No official word. Talk around the first of this year was they were a couple years out which would put in early 2019, however I expect that could change depending on what more competition does in the meantime.
Capt_Stubing Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Also beyond just bumping the res they are working on many other technologies such as eye tracking and adding depth of focus on multiple plains. As it was suggested we won't see this right away. I expect late 2018 at best
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Yep, late 2018 at the earliest, it has been said on numerous occasions. Also, the thing has to allow for 100-110° FOV and enough Hz. Otherwise it won't be VR. For those that have no experience with VR yet, low Hz and a smaller FOV such as 75° make you feel you are looking at a screen in goggles. The sensation of size is only given if these things work right.
