Is there a way for the pinky switch to be recognized as a modifier like shift, ctrl, or alt? I'm running out of buttons on the x52.

In game options not.

But can do this using a keymapper, e.g. the Saitek program (know as bugged) or 3rd part - for single things like this Joy2key is a "Swiss pocket knife" - without counter-indication.

I so wish 1CGS could add the ability to assign a joystick button as a modifier in the controller setup menu...

Joy2key is a "Swiss pocket knife" - without counter-indication.

I've downloaded it but I have no clue what I'm doing. :P Time to watch several tutorials.

Open Joy2key, in File select New, type any name (is your "profile" - can create various, for various games).

Press the X-52 pinky button, notice what button was highlight (1) in interface, double click over this button, in the next window press LShift (or the game modifier you want this button pinky press), hit OK.

That's all, leave joy2key open and in games controls assign, for example "pinky" button + "trigger" for "wheel brakes" (press both). In game controls will be show: LShift +  joy0_b0 (maybe vary)

So when you press and hold "pink" and press trigger, will brake both wheels and not fire guns. Press trigger only fire guns as usual.

Apply this principle for any button/HAT that you want modify with pinky (LShift) game.

(1) If Joy2Key don't see X-52 pinky button pressed is because this button are in "clutch" mode ("shift" for Saitek software) and you need change for DX button using Saitek software (2)

If you start the game and forget start to Joy2Key no problem, just Alt+Tab and open, will work.

(2) As you see you can use Saitek software for do the same thing, but are to many complains about their bugs, ghost press, BSOD... that maybe worth ignore this software.

I so wish 1CGS could add the ability to assign a joystick button as a modifier in the controller setup menu...

This was already asked and explained that is not desirable because will be "too complicated for new players".

Hmm... Do I have to select the "associate profiles with applications" thing? It still won't recognize the pinky trigger as L Shift.

Open (Win7) Search box or (WinX) Cortana box, type: joy.cpl

In the opened window select X-52, then properties, press the pink button and look if a button highlight in interface.

If not X-52 pinky is in "clutch" mode and need be change for DX button mode before to be able to use in Joy2Key or other keymapper.

This "associate profiles with applications"  is useful if you have profiles for more than one game - for select the appropriated profile for a given game - if have for only one leave as is.

That's all, leave joy2key open and in games controls assign, for example "pinky" button + "trigger" for "wheel brakes" (press both). In game controls will be show: LShift +  joy0_b0 (maybe vary)

I test the above example and work OK. But is not assign "pinky button + "trigger" (joy button) in game controls, instead this assign LShif+trigger (LShift +  joy0_b0) - press LShift on keyboard - because if you press the pinky button there the game register the button first than LShift sent by Joy2key.

But in game when you press and hold pinky Joy2key send LShift an so you can press trigger (joy0_b0) that will brakes both wheels instead fire guns.
