Lusekofte Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I tried to overclock my old i7 2,8 ghz and it went right up in temperature , I tweaked and tweaked following many tutorials, but truth is it simply perform best in DCS in auto. I did not bother testing it in this simulator. I probably need to buy new water coolant for it, and I think I will not bother. So I go for a new one in the next month to come. Knowing me , I cannot go for second best when I purchase new PC . I tested out a Oculus Rift on my sons new PC and I have to say I was both very impressed and not so much. In fact after a while I got many second thoughts about it. I tested it for two evenings in DCS and a couple of hours offline in this game. I found it to be less good than the TV I used when it comes to targets and planes. The immersion of being there was amazing, but I have a sort of pit with a authentic throttle and panels, I miss seeing it while flying, and all the switches. But I guess there will be a better version of VR around after a while. This is my questions? My bad points about VR in this case OR: Pretty quick I felt my eyes lacked the ability to focus, I had to drag my face in huge eye closure and refocus, and this would not stop for the hours I used it, it was to live with , but unpleasant. Is this normal? will it pass? How long can you fly with it at the time? I got no sickness and I was intrigued by the expirience. Have anyone heard about improved VR goggles in the future, because in my point of view the resolution is quite bad for flying DCS choppers. But wear glasses so it can be me. I also have to rearrange my space to be able to move around. Second option I have is a 32 inch curved state of the art screen , a bit more expensive. Have anyone tested such a screen in this sim? And the next Intel or AMD cpu? I think I am right now at Ryzen, but I am not too convinced. I Will go for a 1080 TI of some sort just to be suited for the future. My old PC is going on its 8. year, I started it with two GTX 480 in SLI and changed it to 1 x GTX 680 and it worked flawless until now. But the new DCS is a bit too much for it

But the new DCS is a bit too much for it When one sets up the Rift, it is important to go through the set up procedure. When borrowing another's device, one may not necessarily make all the adjustments to get the best experience. Namely in adjusting the straps and positioning it on the head for optimal viewing - it does have kind of a narrow sweet spot. And then the IPD adjustment - the slider on the bottom right of the Rift, there is a step in the setup where you adjust that to get the best image clarity looking at vertical lines. This may be why yours seemed out of focus, maybe combined with not getting it properly arranged on the head. I can fly/game with my Rift for really however long I want, without it becoming unpleasant for me. Probably the longest session I have done is around an hour and a half, but that is normal for me as well. I did not stop because of any discomfort. As far as improved, at least for the two big players - Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it sounds like 2019 is slated for the next generation of the PC device. Of course now there are other players entering the market, Pimax - who already has a device out and some others soon to come, will be interesting to see what is offered in the meantime. But for the big two, maybe in couple of years. As far as PC, I am not as up to snuff on PC Tech as I used to be, have been an Intel guy since the Core 2 Duo days. I will probably remain with Intel myself when I do a new build sometime in 2018, for no other particular reason than I have had great success with Intel chipsets. But I do know the latest Ryzen is getting some great reports and I am sure well worth having a serious look at them. GTX 1080Ti would be a great choice on vid card if getting now, if I were doing a new build now that is what I would certainly go with. Good luck, new builds are always fun and exciting!
Lusekofte Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 Thanks Dburne, I always had Intel myself, But the new Ryzen looks promising. And now i9 has arrived, I might wait this out until the price is going down on it. I did so with the one I had now and it have been with me for 8 years and done a good job. Thank you, it was one for sale locally, and I knew about him so I borrowed it over the weekend. I did not adjust anything , I just guess I flew too little at the time, just never got custom to it, thanks for advice. I probably at one time ahead buy one. Just not together with a new PC (click on the picture for link)
