dburne Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 (edited) Recently Steam updated their Beta VR to a new version, just curious has anyone tried it with BoS? I have just been running the release version of Steam VR for BoS, which appears to work fine for me. I understand the new Steam Beta VR is a much more interactive environment with customizable rooms, etc. Not that would do anything for what we do, but guess pleasant to look at when getting into the Steam VR environment. Anyway I have not tried it out yet, just curious if anyone in here flying BoS in VR has yet, and if so does it play nice with BoS? Edited May 29, 2017 by dburne
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I had to disable it when launching IL2 otherwise VR wasn't working in game. I have a non steam copy of IL2. I haven't spent any time trying to find other workarounds.

What I really hope for as a Rift user, is someday 1CGS can see their way to support VR for BoX through Oculus as well as Steam VR. I already get great performance as it is, can imagine what it would be without the extra layer of Steam VR running as well... I know they can not devote more resources to it at this time, but I hope some day in future they might be able too. Edited May 29, 2017 by dburne
Madov Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Do you have any evidence that performance would improve in VR without Steam? Comparing my VR experience between DCS which embeds VR functionality natively and BoS which uses Steam, I much prefer flying in BoS where performance is excellent. I did fly BoS without Steam originally and saw no improvement at all so was happy to include it with other Steam apps. Steam VR is really performing very well and hopefully CloD can be brought into the fold sometime within the next 12 months too.

Nope , no evidence of that at all - as I mentioned, I already get great performance in BoS in VR already. Being as how Steam VR is an extra layer on top of Oculus Runtime, just curious if it would be even better - who knows. It would be interesting to see. I am extremely pleased with my VR experience in this sim.

dburne Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 +1 It wld be nice to launch bos direct instead of having to launch steam and steam vr and then see oculus app kicking in etc. Another reason I would love to see them add this functionality: I have been talking up this sim over on the Oculus forums, however there is a large contingent of Oculus users that will just not use Steam VR. It is almost like the old Ford versus Chevy fans, Steam VR is tied to HTC Vive, and Oculus is like Ford viewing the Vive as Chevy, or vice versa lol. I know if someday 1CGS could do this, and even maybe work with them and get BoX added into the Oculus store, it would go a long way into getting more Rift users exposed to this great sim. Elite Dangerous did this, and they have a huge following over on the Oculus forums, organizing multiplayer activities, etc. I know Steam is by far the bigger user base and obviously made the best sense for 1CGS to go that route out the chute, but getting it into Oculus sure wouldn't hurt either.
A_radek Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 @Dburne I also think il2 on the oculus store, even as just a demo with one map and a single aircraft would get significant attention there. Was watching a review of that new Star Trek game. And the reviewer was praising the graphics as the best he had seen for VR since Elite dangerous. Obviously he, and probably and whole lot haven't even heard of il2. I can't imagine Jason and the Russian gang haven't considered this an option already instead of focusing on new features. Their main goal being to make a living of this, not to please the unpleasable. So guessing there could be other factors involved. Perhaps such as oculus store apps are required to hold 90fps on recommended rift minimum hardware, maybe there's a hefty price tag every developer has to pay to realease their software there. Only speculation of mine.
dburne Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Yeah I got Star Trek today as well, pretty nice but does not hold a candle to VR and Graphics in IL-2. I bet IL-2 on the Oculus Store would do quite well there. Edited May 30, 2017 by dburne
C6_lefuneste Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 hello, can anyone give here the value shown for his Vive or Rift in steamvr settings/developer for the supersampling resolution (see below) ? As I have an OSVR HDK2, I should have "1080" instead of "2160" for the 1x field. So I want to know if it is a bug of the steamVR information display or a bug of the OSVR suite...

I bet IL-2 on the Oculus Store would do quite well there. Agreed, in STBC the graphics are very *poor* for an AAA game, I assume this was done to keep parity with the PSVR? As to IL2, I too think it would be great for the devs to have the game on Oculus Home. I wonder if its in their plans or if its a complex task?
vladimusmaximus Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Super annoying. Won't open, keeps crashing when Home beta is enabled :/ (Non-Steam game)
