Hello there

With the "new" JU52 we now have somthing other than pure combat available to us.

Does the prospect of simply flying interest folk?

I speak of missions such as moving planes from the rear to the front, photographing reccies and general supply shenanigans.

As a "pilot" rather than a combat chap these kinds of missions interest me hugely and i beleive are available on some MP servers.

But, dear reader, does this type of thing interest you or do you see BoX more as a competitive combat sim?

We all play BoX in our own individual way but without being too pun based I do like to think outside the box and wonder if other flight based tasks are of interest to the majority of players or if its a niche withon a niche?

Let me know!

i love to fly fighters, bombers and transport planes!

There is a good server "Finnish virtual pilots" where you can repair airfield with unarmed pe-2 or drop paras to enemy airfield and occupy it.

Objective is to conquer  enemy airfields and to do that you need to destroy tank base and attack airfield, once majority of airfield objects are destroyed someone need to transport paras to that airfield, when that is done airfield becomes yours.

Also if your side airfield is damaged you can repair it with flying transport/repair plane from another airfield to the damaged one.

Frankly no.  Its a combat flight sim.  I want planes in flames, 'kersplosions, 'chutes in the sky, classic WW2 heavy metal;  the usual stuff.

However, would I like to fly a Cessna around a local GA airport or a Lear Jet into St. Martens in the Caribbean in a civil sim using the Digital Nature engine?   Yes please! :salute:

I'm extremely interested in the transport, photo reconnaissance and other non-combat support roles. An ambitious and imaginative game developer with a proper understanding of gameplay could do wonders in this area.

I don't mind the idea of it, and if it seemed I might achieve some purpose by doing so I might be tempted to fly a mission other than those suited to the current state of gameplay (fighter sweep, ecort, bombing, etc.)

I imagine the difficulty would be implementing the purpose into the server mission.

I love logistics runs as long as there is at least a chance that you will encounter enemy fighters. So it fun when there is some risk involved.

I agree, but there also needs to be an individual player reward too.  That is where the current transporter gameplay fails.

As I said in another thread, we need an MP mission where Germans fly supplies into the Stalingrad pocket while Russians try to shoot them down. To add to that, the same mission should feature transports trying to evacuate wounded out of the pocket.

All the hartmanns can try to pick off the reds trying to score fat JU52 kills.

I flew countless hours of resupplies in the 111 in the early days of this sim. Can't remember the server, think it might have been Eagles Nest before it was taken down... Anyway, yeah, non combat roles are a lot of fun in this sim, I would def be up for flying more of 'em.

Edit: I like that mission idea hrafnkolbrandr, it would be cool to see servers like WoL try out unique mission objectives like that

That's a great idea, I'd totally be up for missions like that. The Ju-52 is a class a/c and just flying it about has turned out to be much more fun than I would have expected. Navigating to different airfields and offloading cargo before going back.

But there are no in-game rewards so it all relies on imagination and being in the right mood.

Photo-recon missions would be brilliant to have, set out in a variant of an appropriate a/c with no armament and cameras or something, get to a location, photo it and return, evading interception and possibly with a time limit. Could even be linked to MP objectives, where there are certain 'target zones' and they need to be photographed and delivered before the map updates to show the target type, like tanks or a factory or whatever.

Great fun, as long as the weather is challenging and GPS is turned off.

But we need link those other achievements (not just shoot down/destroyed object) to the score system.

its being a WW2 Sim its mostly based around bombers and bombing as that how WW2 was won/lost with bombing.

Logistics have been in the game since the beta, Eagles Nest I remember flying a spotter Pe2, resupplying the pocket with He-111's and WoL resupplying airfields, and that partisan spy mission. I don't see any problem with non-combat roles, just another way to distinguish it as a flight sim vs a circle jerk "WTF I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OUT TURN HIM" shit show like War Thunder.

But the only way it works is good mission design, that makes or breaks it.

Actually I only fly ju52 when available, if not then ju87. I don't like fighters or big bombers, wish there was more options and missions for ju52 and not only in multiplayer. Night missions, med evac, vip transport, bigger paratroopers missions with more than 1 plane, landing in Stalingrad during battle to take last wounded (like in stalingrad 1993 movie) and more...

That would be nice

GPS needs to be turned off for this to be rewarding and fun.
