BlackHellHound1 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Amazing to have the skins back! I really can't wait to fly on WoL with skins again. Everyone that helped get the skins back either via voice or vote: THANK YOU! I know this sounds a bit exaggerated but I really do feel this way! BlackHellHound1 2
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 How this transparent skin actually look from the cockpit view? As it appears from the external view.
BlackHellHound1 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I hear reports coming in that the skins are locked once more. Looks like this poll and campaign is not over! Keep those votes coming and keep showing your support! BlackHellHound1
SharpeXB Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) The skins are just about the chief graphic feature of the game, right after the aircraft themselves. Locking them on the only place in the game where you can use them is really disappointing. A lot of great work done by the community is denied to the players. Maybe the real problem here is lack of choice in servers. I think the majority of players would rather see and use custom skins rather than worry about one cheater. Eventually servers will have to cater to players or lose out. Edited May 27, 2017 by SharpeXB
FTC_Riksen Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Yup ... disappointing. Hopefully it will be back soon again
Flitgun Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I haven't really been keeping up with this topic, and I haven't voted yet. Does having custom skins mean I'm going to see 'Hello Kitty' 109s and 'Justin Bieber' La-5s in WoL?

DD_Arthur Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Although I haven't downloaded it so I won't see any, I'm pretty sure most of the '109 jockeys are using a 'Hello Kitty' skin. 1
Flitgun Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Ah, I see, thanks, and I have read the thread now too. I can see why a skinner would really want custom skins. I really can. They would want a stage for their hard work, of course. I imagine some really enjoy putting on a particular skin they love, and wearing it like a new pair of trousers, hips slightly thrust forwards. I also see a very very small number of players, but a very destructive element nonetheless happy to fly around in a cheating transparent skin so they can see through their cockpit. (1%ers. There will always be this group of 1% who cannot and will not follow suit when they think they can get away with it.) There are probably others who aren't too fussed about skinning or downloading custom skins. They might think that the default skins are good enough, given you can only see the topside of the outer wings anyway, unless viewing a replay or posing for others in the parking bay lol. Why would they want to stop the skinners having custom skins though? Why does it affect them? Perhaps to this group, who believe there is little benefit in having custom skins see only the negative possibility of cheaters in transparent cockpits, and as a matter of course would lean towards saying 'no' so as to reduce the possibility of this event. I have to admit, I'm leaning toward this last group myself. Though, I haven't voted yet, if someone can convince me otherwise.
SharpeXB Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I don't understand how a cheating skin would help. You can't see through your own interior can you? At the most you'd see through only the piece of the exterior nose you can see from the cockpit. But that's just a sliver. I think we just need a new server besides WoL.

But, it's the uncertainty that weighs heavy.

BlackHellHound1 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I don't really know either. But, it's the uncertainty that weighs heavy. Since no-one has convinced you yet, I will give it a shot I will start with why you should vote "On"! The main reason I can give is that it adds a large amount immersion to the game. The ability to fly as a squad with correct squad markings is something that can only be achieved in games like IL-2. The ability to recognise your squad and individuals makes fighting in large chaotic battles much more real and just a tiny bit less confusing. (and no, you don't need crazy colourful paint schemes to achieve this!) On top of that, using planes flown by the aces gives you a kind of feeling that is unparalleled. The ability to fly high and fast just like the aces you know and don't know gives a sensation which can only be described as heroic! Of course, there is also the time and effort put into making skins. The time it takes to do research, pay attention to details and then make the skin with all its unique features is truly immense! Combined with the dedication it takes and then to release it for free! To me (and yes this does come from a Skinner), just this point is already enough reason to allow them! There are technically 3 ways someone can cheat in this game. However, the third is so stupid and time-consuming to do that I do not believe anyone would actually use it :| The first is where you make the outside skin of your plane invisible. This will allow you to get a little bit more visibility. For instance: the engine cowling is invisible. However, it does not make you a better pilot, it simply gives you a minutely better outside view. The second method is where a squad makes their planes bright colours like bright green or pink. This makes it much easier for themselves to recognise each other. The third is where you download every skin available and make them all bright colours. The "cheater" sees your skin pink (for example) while you see it as the normal custom skin. I find this a bit far-fetched but it is technically possible. Being one of the skinners, I can say from experience that most squads use historically inspired skins. There are very view squads with crazy coloured skins out there. Most squads are here for the authentic squad feel and brightly coloured skins don't fit in. To me, the advantages that these "cheats" give do not outway the experience these skins give and the work it takes to make them. It is not like it will instantly make the "cheater" a better pilot! What it will do is give me more pleasure to shoot them down! On top of that, I do not believe that there are many "cheaters" out there. At most a hand full. Is it really fair to remove one the most loved features of the IL-2 games for hundreds of players because a hand full of guys can see a tiny bit better? The only server I can think of where it could give a slight advantage is on the TAW server. However, I have never heard anyone that plays on TAW complain about "skin cheats". I ask you to vote "On"! I sincerely believe it will be beneficial to the community! BlackHellHound1 4
Flitgun Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 The passion for making/wearing skins is mostly about other players, as I mentioned, but I shall endeavor to care even less about cheaters. Voted. 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I don't agree either that majority has to suffer restriction because of few ass hols.
Roast Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Historically inspired, or even exact, skins would be welcomed I think. But if silly ones like 'Hello Kitty', canary coloured ones and especially transparent ones would be in, that would spoil it a bit, or even very much, for me. I like this sim to be as historically correct as possible, which means as close to reality including home-made squad skins. So for now I await what the verdict on silly skins will be (f.i. some filter to keep them out), until then my vote is No but I'll gladly change that if more clarity is provided
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 YOU CAN'T SEE OTHER PEOPLES SKINS..So its does not matter if they flying around in giant (dongs) or hotdogsonly the person who downloads a skin can see it."Downloading files" is ONLY mission files NOT skins.

SharpeXB Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Other servers use custom skins and I haven't noticed a difference between them and WoL. I get shot down all the same. But I get to go down in a better looking plane!
SharpeXB Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Either the skins get unlocked or we need a new server to frequent. Locking the skins is a big slap to the community who works so hard doing such nice work. 1
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 A server like WoL, same settings, with unlocked skins, and unlocked modifications......
Urra Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 A server like WoL, same settings, with unlocked skins, and unlocked modifications...... If you see a server named "Blazing Saddles" please visit it. I've started to finish up one map(Moscow) and started another(stali). It has an Ai stuka attack and needs participants. I will have up during the week during at night a few(2-3) days out of the week. It will have above settings.
