The upcoming Kuban map could be challenging when it comes to making historical engagements parameters for both A.I and humans.

 

At the start of the campaign the Soviets had a long flight to and from the combat zone, limiting their ToT. By contrast the Luftwaffe was right next to the action. Towards the end, the situation he reversed, if not quite to the same extent, with the Luftwaffe withdrawing to better defended airfields.

 

It will be interesting to see if the developers or mission designers can reflect this fact, while still making it exciting, encouraging both players and A.I to value the comforts of home over and above another potential target destroyed or hitting the silk and possible incarceration.

 

Maybe, for on-line play a potential 5 minute time-out, in the spectators stands or in a gunners chair might do, for the human players at least.

Since the career mode is ostensibly being created with historical squadrons flying from their historical bases and using the correct aircraft (to the degree that's possible given the limits of the map and the planeset) I guess what you are asking for will be represented in some way.

 

It's an interesting idea in any case, one that really helps you get a feel for the tide of battle, but also one that could lead to frustration among players. Certainly worth a discussion.

But it will add another challenge which for me is a great part of a game; will you manage to get home damaged and it will need better calculation of fuel amount!

Spawning in the air might be an option, to save initial transit time to the combat zone, with appropriate fuel quantity and a bingo warning in the tech chat, for non expert servers. Ignoring warnings would result, even if you disconnect, with player did not complete mission and no points or kills awarded. If you want to bag your kills you have to go home and tell them about it.
