Nift Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Hi, all.I am having trouble with both of my rudder pedals.I have both Thrustmaster RCS and Elite pedals and Thrustmaster Cougar stick and throttle. I'm running Windows 10When I plug the pedals into the Thrustmaster Cougar Stick and then try to calibrate the following happens:Initially the calibration is zeroed. As soon as I touch the pedals to move them the center indicator goes to 100% right. Moving the right pedal achieves nothing but moving the left pedal moves the indicator towards the center and then past it as the pedal goes through its full motion. This problem occurs with both pedals. Can anyone provide an explanation and a fix for this? I'm thinking of converting the rudder pedals to usb with this: Rockfire RM-203 gameport to usb adapter. Will this work with IL2? Does it recognize multiple controllers?Thank you.
Nift Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) Just bumping this up. Is anyone still using the Cougar? Can anyone point me at the place where I can get some answers to my problem? I spent over $100 on this sim and would like to try it out with a decent HOTAS. Can anyone say what devices you are using? I tried to reset my Joystick. Deleted the firmware with no problem but now the device is not recognized and will not upload the firmware to the stick. Do I just scrap this $250 doorstop that I have or spend more time on trying to get it working? Thanks Edited May 25, 2017 by Nift
Sokol1 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) When you say calibration is the Windows calibration or Thrustmaster software calibration? Preferable you should use Thrustmaster calibration, but if is not available try do Windows calibration, ignore the cursor behavior and follow the instructions on screen, then hit apply (or OK) and test the pedal to see if calibration produce result. Can try the same with Tm software. "Flight simulator/games" like IL-2 1946, CLoD, BoS, DCSW, Warthunder... recognize more than one USB controller, e.g. IL-2:46 up to 4, others is more. This Rockfire Gameport to USB will wok, but this device has limited resolution ("steeps" on axis course), 8 bits (256 steps) I think. Depends their price better invest in Thrustmaster TFRP, the more cheap rudder pedal available. A good solution for this old pedals - but require a bit of DIY is convert then for USB using Arduino board e.g. Arduino PRO Micro, Teensy 2.0+... the first cost only ~$6. This will give you 10 bits (1024 steeps) of resolution on axis. Can replace their rudder pot with Bi-Tech 6127 HALL Sensor (cost ~$20). Edited May 25, 2017 by Sokol1
Nift Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) Thanks for the response. The calibration problem that I have described shows up in both Windows and HOTAS Cougar Control Panel. It is almost as if something is wrong with the game port on my stick which as you know aggregates the connections of both throttle and rudder pedals. I did get my stick and throttle working by rebooting, then reloading the firmware, and re calibrating. But the rudder problem is still there. During manual calibration it shows the uneven movement of left and right pedal but I thought that would be the fix. After the calibration the rudders do exactly the same thing with no change. I went through the manual calibration several times. Rebooting my PC and following the instructions I've read. Thrustmaster TFRP looks OK but the spacing between pedals is way too small. I need the comfort of the RCS spread. Even Elites are too close together but not like the TFRP or the CH Products Pro Pedals. Th Rockfire looks like something that will work and is only $15 with no mess or extra work and potential damage to the pedals if not done right. I read about the Arduino solution and can certainly do the work. Do you have a good link to some detailed plans or instructions? Does the extra resolution really makes a big difference? Thanks. Sokol1 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 More axis resolution (10-12 bits) allow you do more fine corrections with less pedal deflection. This is more noticeable for helicopters fly. But for $15 this Rockfire seems a good bet - in last case you end with pedal plus USB adapter to announce in eBay. IMO - The more easy Arduino solution is MMJoy2 - just flash the firmware, set some parameters in Windows GUI an is ready (minus pot re-wire), are a extensive topics about in SimHQ and DCS forum.
