Berloga Dogfight ?

Yep. Like I said I'd pretty much just done one or 2 test flights offline and wanted to see how it handles in a fight.

What is your convergence?

200. Just left it set where I have the 109. Probably a bit too close for the .50s but it works ok.

When I was flying the Hurricane in the old game (the model without hispanos), I was using 150 m, getting really close to pepper the 109s. I miss so much the vinipuh il 2 46 server (flying exclusively yaks and hurricane there). The situation was quite the opposite there,  the 109 f2 outurns there with ease the regular yak 1. The yak 1b had to stay at corner speed 330 outherwise it was outmaneuvered by the 109s. The ufo's la5fn and la7 were hardly used on the server.

Even on this server I think that would be too close. Its hard to catch up as the P-40 is a bit slower so you have to shoot from distance a bit. That and it's hard to see over the nose at close range.

P-40 is broken

most of us have deemed it a non-factor as long as it goes unrevised

the only "use" you'd get from it in MP, is as a less capable ground attacker than the IL2 (the shturmovik being better suited in every aspect, including as a dogfighter) - so even then, it remains the "unicycle of stalingrad" a thing that you do just because it's so unbelievably impractical, it's actually fun for whatever reason...

but in combat, it's juicier, easier meat than any stuka - the '87 can at least try to maneuver out of harm's way, and has a gunner to help...

however, the P40 promptly destroys any pilot daft enough to try and jink away from an attacker, often without the enemy even wasting his ammo (besides the occasional pot shot to secure his score on the inevitable maneuver kill)

eh, like i said I really don't find it that bad. I agree the spins seem exaggerrated, especially when damaged, but I find I can avoid them fairly wellmand even catch it quickly when Im not damaged. And defensive flying is certainly possible. It turns well enough to get out of the way of the really high speed BnZ attempts. You can outroll them too if you are decent on the rudder and don't yank the stick. I've even found that I can outturn the 109s carrying gunpods, and on occassion some of the ones without.

You definitely do have to be smart. The biggest limitation against the German aircraft IMO is the lack of vertical ability. Once you've gone downstairs in a fight you aren't coming back up. If you know how to use the energy you have though you can certainly hold your own against an average pilot.

Haven't tried it on a big server yet although I think the slow speed might make it more difficult to get the jump on people there. Im sure its still possible though. From offline Testing I would guess it'd be pretty good for killing 111s as well though.

The other big limitation is that half the Russian pilots are too dumb to tell Te difference between a P-40 with a huge white star on the side and a bright yellow tail and a grey 109 with black crosses on the side.....

I've been owned a few times by P40's (not that I am any good) especially when you underestimate them and you think of it as a juicy easy target.... next thing you know... you're in front of 6x50 cals getting savagely assaulted.

KMac used to get a lot of kills on WoL with that beast.

German? American? They are the same to the Russians apparently.

Salut! Nice video ! The P40 is so much fun to fly.  She is a beast with the 50 cal. . You dont even need 6 of them, 4 is enough. I almost never use this plane for ground attack, i like dogfighting with her even if its tricky sometimes.

oh god... so true, as if we didn't have enough problems with a 1930s plane surrounded by 1940s enemy...

half the time it's your comrades that set you on fire because they thought they were seeing a 109

really - there's like only one angle that from a reasonable distance (far enough that one shouldn't be shooting, really) where the gear "pods" can kinda blur into the underside in a way that maybe resembles a 109's radiators sometimes... and a quick zoom-in and check most often clears up any confusion most promptly

of course... when in doubt - SHOOT TO KILL! - one can always apologize later, right?

I actually have high hopes that once the rudder updates are in, a good number of us are gonna have it as an instant new favourite plane - it's really the one big thing that holds it back...   I can live with the engine being devoid of such modern conveniences as say, "thrust" or whatever similar comfort features the newer planes might boast...

the death-slide tendency and the twice-as-long, wrongly executed startup procedure are really the two things that bother me the most -- I never expected to outturn or outfly enemy aircraft (or even some occasional scary large pigeon) - that thing is just so badass that airworthiness is merely optional
