Search proved fruitless...

Is there someway to assure that camo stripes align correctly (especially fuselage where it's split into upper, left and right on the templates) without tedious trial and error?

Tedious trial and error it is... Not many other options available.

But I do have a small tip: If the edge of the camo patterns is slightly blurred (only a tiny bit is needed), then a minute misalignment of one or 2 pixels is nearly invisible.

If the edges are a little bit more blurred, then it becomes even easier.

I guess there is no real easy way... just a time consuming one...

Thanks for the reply BHH. I've thought about trying to merge the left, upper and right on the template using the wireframe as a guide. It will require distorting / skewing the separate areas to match along the edges. But it would then have to be un-distorted back... might not work but maybe...

I'm not sure if you have this or if it will help.  This is a 4K panel finder file (GIMP format).  If you load it into a top layer and decrease opacity, using this along with wireframe in Skin Viewer may assist with where painted areas begin and/or end on non-contiguous pieces.

As said its tedious and trial and error for the most part. Sometime you can use diatinctive panel lines or stencils as a guidline to work with.

My usual method is to draw the paztern with sharp edges so any misalignment is clearly visible, match it as close as possible (again trial & error mostly) and than blurr them effectively hiding any little offsets left from the previous step.
