ACG_pezman Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 I am looking to host a dedicated server but I don't want it to have any lag issues. Now I have heard conflicting things about what exactly causes the lag, but one of the things that concerned me was that windows limits the amount of connections you can make unless you buy the windows server software. I don't know if this is necessarily true or not, but if it is, what effect would that have on a dedicated server? Also, if that is the case, is it possible to run the Dserver on a linux system or would that even be beneficial? I don't think bandwidth will be an issue, but what should I be looking at for a server? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
JG13_opcode Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 but if it is, what effect would that have on a dedicated server If that's true, it won't cause lag so much as put a hard cap on the number of players. You'll see lots of dropped connections. Also, if that is the case, is it possible to run the Dserver on a linux system or would that even be beneficial? You can, but it's a heck of a lot of work. Easier to pay for a linux server (cheaper) and then run windows in a VM.
