The 'E' series 109... the purists choice?

advantage for who old pilot that reached his 80th anniversary or the greenhorn. Automation and the pilot still needs to use brakes manually is this not something what the engine can do automatic? Automation and still no Auto pilot? BTW what you do if automation fails, bail out? Dogfight with automation where everything counts to change the outcome is holding back!  Disable automation means full control and push everything to their limits. What is better to fly Stock or with Overclock? :P:biggrin:

It's really interesting how different people have very different styles. For me air combat is about developing situational awareness, securing advantages (speed, altitude, surprise) and using those advantages to defeat an opponent giving them the least opportunity to retaliate possible. I very much think of being forced into a dogfight as a failure of SA, in a dogfight your opponent has some hope of winning! So I love automation because it allows me to devote more time to SA, and less time to managing the plane. But for other people their style is very much about riding the plane right on the edge of the envelope, and they want full control over every aspect of the aircraft to achieve that.

This has been around for awhile, but still worth a second look... I remember seeing this a couple of years ago and it shows why I like the E series so much...

Any idea where this warbird is now?  I found the serial number (Bf 109 E-3 3579) and the best I can find is that its at Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar.

I had the pleasure of seeing it perform two of the years that the Russell Aviation Group operated near Niagara Falls, Ontario. Was a spectacular sight and sound and it was really great to see it next to the Spitfire IX that they had. I believe that entire collection was later sold... The Bf109 struck a flag pole on landing (an angry neighbor had put it up - I suspect the neighbor had some issues with Transport Canada after that incident) and things seem to sour from there.

Just bumping the thread, as photobucket has wiped out many of my threads by no longer allowing free image hosting, for that I need to pay now.

So, re uploaded the pics and now using Postimage.org  :)
