Herne Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 This thread is for those pilots who feel bad for not properly identifying their targets. I was so embarrassed, yes I play in VR but there's not really much I could mistake an HE 111 for. @Sierrakilogulf I am so sorry http://il2stat.aviaskins.com:8008/en/sortie/log/1891184/?tour=22
Gambit21 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Just learn and do better next time - it's just a game after all. An accident is different than just being a tool. I remember a friendly guy shooting at me because "I have bad eyesight and cant' tell the difference" Then don't fire your guns arsewhipe...couldn't believe that guy. He can't see, so his answer was to fire just in case it was an enemy. That was the one of two times I turned around and intentionally smoked a 'friendly' AC.
Luftschiff Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I fly the macchi and 110 quite a lot, I have learned to accept a few friendly bursts. I have also pulled the trigger on a friendly 190 on at least one occasion. These things happen, just own the mistake and apologize.
Trident_109 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I was trying to keep the teams even so when the blue side needed a fighter I switched sides to hunt the reds... except when I took off I forgot I was now blue and after finding a lone enemy coming toward my field I excitedly shot at the blue. I fully expected him to be strafing my base only to find out he was RTB. Flamed him on the first pass (which never happens with me in multi) and I realized my mistake. "Uh ohhh. The shame. The pain."
Inkophile Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 (edited) Dunno how many times I've fired on friendly 109s from pure six from within 100 meters, which sucks really bad since I make a consious effort to look at the wing cant, radiator position, horizontal stabilizer position, etc. Still I never ever see the under-wing radiators, and their belly always look Yak-fat. Makes me sad and ashamed =( Hopefully it'll get a bit better now with a new graphics card. PS. For some reason I've never wrongly ID:ed a Russian plane when flying for the VVS. Strange, that. Trooper117 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 It happened in real life all too often... no one should be surprised it happens in game.
Tomsk Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 (edited) Dunno how many times I've fired on friendly 109s from pure six from within 100 meters, which sucks really bad since I make a consious effort to look at the wing cant, radiator position, horizontal stabilizer position, etc. Still I never ever see the under-wing radiators, and their belly always look Yak-fat. Makes me sad and ashamed =( Approaching from level dead six seems to be when this happens most often for me. Several times I've mistaken 109s for Yaks from the rear. Edited May 17, 2017 by Tomsk
Ypsan Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I get TKd on a daily basis in Folgore so from time to time I lose temper and call someone an idiot on chat. Its a video game and is meant for us to have fun. Shit happens, and most importantly I never got TKd on purpose. So my appologies for those times, I didn't really mean it. One thing I'd like to add is try to ID target before shooting. Learn the sillouetes. I made mistakes too but only when I was on receiving end I realized how time consuming it is to fly damaged plane to base then gain altitude with new plane only to get shot by a friendly again, and repeat the whole process. That's an hour of game time gone to waste and all applogies in the world won't turn the clock backwards. Cheers!
Riderocket Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Id like to see how many VVS guys shoot down P-39s thinking it's a BF109.
Cpt_Cool Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 One time flying escort I demolished a "friendly" 109 that fired on the Stuka. He obviously had it coming, but I still did not realize it was blue until I got penalized.
Beazil Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 (edited) I have trouble telling a plane from a bus in game sometimes. At least without icons on. I think it's pretty amazing some people can tell the difference based on silhouette. Me? I have to pretty much pull beside the guy to tell what side they are flying. I've shot and been shot down by friendlies, but no wonder... Edited May 17, 2017 by Beazil
CIA_Windhawk Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Damn... a P40 can sure look like a 109 from certain angles! At least the wings stayed on and the engine kept running.
Ghost666 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I've been flying on line now for, oh 3 days and fired on 2 109's with my 109. But I've never been penalized, I can't hit a hanger from the inside it. For the two I fired on sorry.
Flitgun Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Where's that 109 pilot who shot my mate hanging in his parachute yesterday?? Yes, I saw you!
Ypsan Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 @Beazil Good monitor and gpu definitely play role in recognizing silouettes. I recently got 21:9 screen and can now even tell the camo of the plane from a fair distance. But on my older setup it was much harder. What I'm strugling with is how to tell a friendly on my 6 that I am mc.202 and not mig3. Flashing navlights or rocking wings often makes no difference and there is no time to type in chat. On several occasions I've been forced into rolling scissors with 109s and they still wouldn't recognize me to break off the attack.
Herne Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 Well I did it again, shot scharfi down. ofc he took it very gracefully and spammed ban.Scharfi I watched the replay, I'm sorry mate, I see where I went wrong, I was on a yak, that was extending away from me, you cut right across the path between me and him and then pull up, above the tree line exactly where I was expecting to see him. I was actually in a debrief in TS saying goodnight to my wingman so my full attention wasn't on the game or I might have spotted the error before I pulled the trigger but then again I might not, It is difficult in the rift, unless you can see paint, and in mind I had already confirmed that you were a YAK.If you want I can post the replay to YT, but calling me " a little f...ing retard" is uncalled for mate, i expect that in League of Legends, but not here.
curiousGamblerr Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 ... calling me " a little f...ing retard" is uncalled for mate ... Uncalled for, probably, but I lol'd at that one Scharfi's insults always make me laugh, glad to be back on Wings of LOLberty today
