Icons have disappeared?

Silly problem but I'm not longer seeing icons (navigation and enemy planes).

I've only tried the single player campaign mode. I have tried turning HUD on and off, and pressing the 'i' key.

I am using expert campaign settings, VR and balanced graphics with all post processing off.

I'm sure they were present before, so anyone know what I might have done to turn them off, or if the patch changed something?

No icons in expert difficulty, it's always been like that.

difficulty is set on expert or you pressed "h" key......"h" is for HUD works similar like "i" key

Unfortunately as others mentioned you will not get icons flying in Expert Mode, in the campaign you would need to fly in Normal realism to get the icons available.

I fly in VR as well, and have the icon ( I ) assigned to a toggle switch on my Warthog throttle so I can easily toggle them on and off. I keep the HUD hidden due to the performance impact especially in VR with it displayed.

Expert essentially doesn't change anything except.

engine management.

Icons.

Spectators.

The flight models and physics are the same unless you use custom difficulty.

I'm also having the same problem. I undesrtand that expert shouldnt have icons, but  the PWCG mission builder and other 'custom' settings missions also no longer seem to provide any navigation icons after the last update. Annoying because I like to choose custom difficulty with basically everything on realistic except for navigation which I feel in the evenings and with limited time I dont really have the time to get into at the moment. Just a personal preference but I was loving the ability to just be to customize things as I liked.

Not providing a custom difficulty I think is a big mistake but at the moment it doesent seem to be working properly and in the main game one can choose between only either normal or expert, one of which is too heavy handed icon wise and the other not customizable enough. I would rather there be no such thing as expert or normal and just have the ability to choose in the settings exactly as I wish. I dont understand why the campaign has to be so restrictive in this regard.

Are there any plans to include a custom difficulty for the main campaign rather than just limiting things to expert or normal?

Anyone any ideas?

I am with you there, it would be so nice to be able to customize our settings how we want for the campaign. I fly with Normal settings in the campaign now due to this, would love to be flying on Expert settings but need to be able to toggle icons when I want.

Yeah it makes little sense for this game in particular, with excellent flight models but still leaning more towards a main stream arcade experience game action wise.

I toggle icons on and off in the campaign with joyful abandon! I fly under "normal" difficulty, and I have the engine aids and limiters all mapped to the same key, so after the mission starts, I turn all that off with a single key stroke, and that leaves me with just the icons.

Then with the "i" key, I can keep the icons off, but then turn them on when I want to, ahem, cheat. And for that hardcore nav challenge (and so on), I can turn all of the HUD off with the "h" key. That gives me all the flexibility I need. But I do look on this as a "workaround". More custom options for the campaign would be great - as would more flexible aircraft icons.

Yeah I fly with the HUD off as well due to performance reasons in VR.

But now wait, are you telling me I can control my engine management in Normal difficulty in the campaign? If so can you elaborate a little on exactly how I do this? I would love to start managing my engine, only reason I am not is I do not want to fly in Expert settings and not have icons available when I need them.

Thanks for any tips,

I believe you just need to press LShift+m, LShift+n and LShift+r to disable all the auto stuff. (that's if you have the default key bindings.

I will have to give that a try then, thanks!

I have noticed this too. Expert difficulty, a few weeks ago would give you navigation markers and primary objective. You can observe it here :-

But now all markers are gone, but also AI behaviour seems to have changed. If I do an intercept mission they will follow me as usual to the action point, but they won't attack nme bombers unless they come into close proximity to the action point, and they no longer follow me back to base, but instead return to the action point.

I'm not too bothered about the markers, but it is a shame if I have to try and solo a flight of peshkas, with nasty gunners, and fighter cover.

I think (in other words, I don't know for sure and I'm far too lazy to test rigorously) that the only difference in engine management between "normal" and "expert" difficulty are three "limiters" or aids. They're under Engine Controls tab in the Controls settings. I have them all mapped to one key (in my case, being left-handed,  Right Ctrl and Enter is handy). Thus, I can turn them all off at the start of the mission and - as far as I'm aware - I now have an "expert" flying experience, but with assorted nav aids, icons and other 'cheats' all available if/when the frustration gets too much. Best of all possible worlds!

I will give that a try, much thanks! I will just program to one button on my Warthog throttle.

I had all my ground unit icons disappear ( apart from the steam engine, not the rolling stock), air units were fine.

Had to uninstall and reinstall.  Just left it to download over night.
