19//Moach Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) yes, it's not that they're overdone in general - they appear overdone in SOME cases, however, specially when you have what looks like only minor damage, and then the resulting smoke appears somewhat larger than it ought to be but that may just be the case of the damage appearing smaller than it actually is due to limitations in how the game renders it on the plane what seems the strangest though, is that there is no variation in scale between minor leaks and major ones - even though one quickly realizes the difference between them by checking the fuel gauge in the minutes (or seconds) that follow there is certainly a large variety of possible leak sizes modelled in the simulation but they all look the same -- and that, is where the problem lies Edited May 24, 2017 by 19//Moach
Finkeren Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 I personally think, that the smoke from fire is overdone. The thick, black cloud of smoke is really only seen for a relatively short moment in historic footage and seems to only happen, when a fuel tank outright explodes. I'd like to see it a bit toned down and less opague. Then again: I say this only because everything else is coming together so nicely. It's not something I'd have prioritized before.

This is similar to visual damage of wings, now after 20 mm German cannon increase damage mostly vvs are loosing one of its wing after good pass and progressive decals are there but critical (cumulative) damege is applying mych faster to the wing at it just fall off. This is just old tech similar to Rise of Flight damage model where you can shoot off wing just shooting at wing tip with pistol - you see that decals are changing on all wing then after critical damage (like arcade health bar plus new texture and handling change) it snap, it can be tested on the ground - no other forces at works. In this il2 version, wich i realy love!!!!!!, damn what a great game!!! I would like to see those leaking from a damaged plane. I know this it nitpicking but asking doesnt cost a thing

Ribbon Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 here some first hand experience and i can tell devs did it good in il2, we had leaking on water scoops loosing water from tanks, i take it as good example cos amount of water draining is the same like someone shot it with a bullet. i instantly remembered this thread
