MineFewer Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) Piston engines only. Post yours here! Edited May 8, 2017 by MineFewer
Inkophile Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Thankfully it's the A-20, so I'm absuletely delighted with BoK!
Feathered_IV Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I think I'm more of a B-25 fan myself. Although I'll happily take that BoK A-20.
Rjel Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 B-25 for me too. I'd especially like to see the 8 gun nose version in BoX someday. Beyond those already mentioned and the A-26 Invader, what others were there?
Lusekofte Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 P 61 would be interesting, but being a level bomber I think B 26 Marauder would be nice. But I have nothing at all against the A 20 we are getting what others were there? P 61, P39, German Mosquito , A 26 was just so few and saw little to none action, but really did good work up to the 70´s
Retnek Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 elegance: B-26 (won't hurt for Midway-release) choice for combat: B-25 (best choice for Midway-release) pilots plane: A-20 (can't wait)
Finkeren Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) With those very specific specifications (must apply to something like a handful of aircraft that actually saw service, almost all of them American) I'll have to say the B-25, one of the early versions. I'm quite fond of the field modified gun-ships of the South-West Pacific. Edited May 8, 2017 by Finkeren

I'm quite fond of the field modified gun-ships of the South-West Pacific. Funny. I think the later models look better. With the dorsal turret moved forward, and the tail turret added. But also with the solid nose.
Scojo Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 A-20, since it's the only one I will get to fly in BoX this year. My next anticipated will be the B-25 for the PTO, if they decide to make it.
AndyJWest Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 B-25 for me. Not particularly elegant, but rugged and functional.
ZachariasX Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Does it count? Did that ever drop a bomb? I mean, to qualify as "bomber", this would be a plus... I guess itwould make up the OP's spec calling for piston engines...
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Did that ever drop a bomb? I mean, to qualify as "bomber", this would be a plus... I guess itwould make up the OP's spec calling for piston engines... The aircraft in question is the Ju 287 (completed in russia and called OKB-1). Ju 287 is the successor to the Ju 87. Ju 87 was a piston engined aircraft and droped a lot of bombs. Also it's super awesome and the best aircraft ever built. So it's perfectly valid!

In the Mistel configuration together with the Me-262 it would be an interesting proposition indeed.
Lusekofte Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I'm quite fond of the field modified gun-ships of the South-West Pacific. I read a article about B 25 in pacific, when they started to fly without bomb aimers, Many was field modded , but most was replaced in this squadron. One of the bomb aimers showed his talent for painting nose art on the field modded gunships, so the Squadron did not send him. He stayed and painted those nose arts. The A 20 and B 25 had tremendous respect from the Japanese and was regarded as lethal, but the service was dangerous business. Low flying over heavily defended areas
HagarTheHorrible Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 (edited) I always think seeing pictures of people dying, even more so when you can't see the people, is far more profound and moving than just seeing another pile of dead bodies. Edited May 10, 2017 by HagarTheHorrible

Finkeren Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Agree. Tricycles are for small children and overweight Americans. 1
Rjel Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Agree. Tricycles are for small children and overweight Americans. I've come to expect these kind of slams against Americans here. I'd be critized if I were to make similar slanderous comments about other nationalities but I guess we in the U.S. are fair game. I expected better from you.

I know I'm playing a stereotype, but I honestly thought my tounge-in-cheek was pretty obvious here. Tricycle landing gears are obviously a better configuration than taildraggers and the US is obviously not the only country with an obesity epidemic (not even the worst IIRC) Being on top of the World does tend to make one a legitimate butt end of a lot of jokes (just ask the British) The fact that most people can have a hearty laugh at an "American" or "British" joke without anyone being uncomfortable or particularly offended is a sign of just how well those countries have done for themselves. In a few generations when China has supplanted the US as the World's leading superpower, our great-grandchildren can probably make jokes about the Chinese without offending anyone. ZachariasX Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 our great-grandchildren can probably make jokes about the Chinese without offending anyone. And they can answer the following question then: "If you spin a Chinese man around would he become disoriented?"

Rjel Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Dornier Do335 Worlds Fastest Piston Engine Aircraft (even to this day) Maximum speed: 765 km/h (475 mph) in Level Flight @ 5,000ft (1500m) Also one of the sexiest looking planes unlike those ugly 1 prop wannabee's :D Not even close. Not even during WWII. The P-51H had a quoted speed of 487mph. Several other late war props had similar top speeds. Since the war the top speed for a prop plane has exceeded 500mph.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 For me has to be a B-25. Would be nice to have them in the PTO so we can try to get airborne off a carrier.

Since the war the top speed for a prop plane has exceeded 500mph. Ahh No you are wrong. Very easy to check just Wiki it then check References. Im only going by what USAF says and what other stuff o wiki says Also Maximum CRUISE speed for P51 was only 440MPH Officially Maximum speed: ~440 mph (383 kn, 708 km/h) at 25,000 ft (7,600 m) The Maximum CRUISE speed for Do335 was 475MPH Officially Maximum speed: 475 mph (765 km/h) at 20,000 ft So Its obviously Faster. Also to clarify still to this date the fastest PISTON! Powered (Not turbo prop which has no pistons) A prototype of the successor to the Supermarine Spitfire, the Supermarine Spiteful F.16 (RB518), reached 494 mph (795 km/h). The fastest German propeller driven aircraft to see combat in WWII was the twin-DB 603-powered Dornier Do 335 "Pfeil" which had a top speed of 763 km/h (474 mph). Anyways my Mistake as its not a bomber
BeastyBaiter Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Have to go with the B-25, but the thread is terribly specific. Very few plane types featured tricycle gear in WW2, and if looking at only bombers, it's a really short list.
MiloMorai Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 =R4T=Sshadow14, you do realize the speed you stated for the P-51 is for the P-51D
Feathered_IV Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Dornier Do335 Also one of the sexiest looking planes unlike those ugly 1 prop wannabee's :D I disagree. The Do-335 looks to me like it is giving birth to another aircraft.

Brano Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Boston here. I have some good memories from old Sturm flying this beauty in all the different theatres of operation. Coming to your theatre this X-mas
Lusekofte Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I disagree. The Do-335 looks to me like it is giving birth to another aircraft. That is the best description I have ever seen. But I have always been very interested in it after I flew it in MS CFS and IL 2 . In special the 46 what if version with the big cannons

ITS A JOKE (you can joke about whoever you want however you want, as its a joke its not racist or anything like that) Its meant to be offensive or its not funny.
