69th_chuter Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Has to either be tightened up or done away with. Seriously. Quite a few times I've lost over 100 points* (in my helpless little tank) because someone on my team was using the same airspace on the map. It's just goofy. Well, I'm going back to the map now ... had to vent. * The maps sometimes get turned early and sometimes the only defense I have is points. I hate early turns ... don't understand that, anyway.
Cybermat47 Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 It is annoying, but I'm not sure how much it could be tightened up. The computer can't tell your intent, after all (and thankfully so).
Sokol1 Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 The only way to deal with FF is the ancient Warbids way: the damage is caused in your plane. 1
OrLoK Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 As an SP player can you folk explain OP's issue? Are they being penalised for being in the same sector as a ff incident?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 It used to be 50% penalty and it seemed fine. Perhaps there was a lot of noise about shoulder shooting, team kills and friendly fire. If that is the case, I can see how this was a solution and I'm still mostly OK with it. All of those things drive me nuts too. I get penalized pretty infrequently so it doesn't affect me much.

Rolling_Thunder Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 This is a game issue. You have to ask yourself if this is a game or a simulator. If it's a simulator, FF, although annoying, is part and parcel of the conflict you're simulating. If you're only concerned with your score then you need to dismiss yourself from any discussion about anything relevant to "simulation". I find folk "venting", read whining, on forums about this non issue, in my opinion, vastly more annoying than the act itself. 1
Cybermat47 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 As an SP player can you folk explain OP's issue? Are they being penalised for being in the same sector as a ff incident? It happens in SP, too. Once, I was attacking an IL-2 as it attacked friendly ground forces. Some of my rounds were close to the friendly troops, and I was penalised.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Friendly Fire will happen," Oops I thought you were a bad guy." I have had quite a few times where one would spawn in next to me,turn and shoot at me. In the old Warbirds days, the FF would damage you, not the guy you were shooting at. Mistake or not one made sure of who they were shooting at and it discourage team killing..because you'd just kill yourself. I did like it. SP it would suck though. IMO.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Friendly fire is annoying but so is worrying about points. 1
JimTM Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) Be aware that every now and then you may get a "...fired on a friendly" warning when you attack a legitimate target. If you are sure that you haven't hit one of your teammates by accident, the warning is probably due to a target object (or a non-target object nearby) being set to country "Neutral" (the default value). A neutral object is considered friendly to players and enemy to the AI. In this case, the mission builder needs to set the country for target objects and any nearby objects to the correct value. II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Friendly fire is annoying but so is worrying about points. Well sure but if all of the mission objectives are not completed on some servers points determine the win. I'm a Luftwhiner so I play for K/D anyway.
Riderocket Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 The only way to deal with FF is the ancient Warbids way: the damage is caused in your plane. You can set this is the mission maker, There's an option to "return friendly fire"
