dreyer Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 Played about 3 hours today along with Higaluto (thanks for all your assistance) on WoL server. First impression: The game is solid. However, I can't tell aircraft apart at all. I think I spent 5% of my total ammunition for the duration of 2 full fuel tanks. Hit a single aircraft, which escaped and landed safely, got shot at twice and forced to land at friendly airport. Fighting the game more than the other pilots at this stage it seems. Can't for the life of me tell a friendly from a foe and struggling hard with the camera views. I don't remember it being this hard to see the enemy silhouette. The 10km barrier is also massively disappointing and weird....
Haza Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Stick with it! The friend or foe issue still happens for me and if Gunther Rall can get it wrong, i think in a game we can be forgiven!! 18:40 onwards to hear about getting friend or foe wrong!!! Edited May 30, 2017 by Haza

I've had flights where I did no combat what soever. I flew around with friendly fighters looking for trouble but always being a few minutes late to an engagement. Eventually found an enemy fighter who smartly out ran my LaGG-3. Then I returned to base having fired no more than a half dozen machine gun rounds at extreme range to try and convince him to do something stupid and slow down. That can be how it goes online... or the exact opposite 1
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) From behind the LW planes have more wing dihedral (except the p40 so be careful there). The VVS planes are more round and stubby generally speaking (round wingtips with fatter tapering wings when viewed from above/below). Also if its doing insane turns and hovering with full flaps..... its a yak. Get on Berloga server.... you'll quickly learn to ID planes there. Its also the best place to learn gunnery, ID'ing and survival skills. Edited May 31, 2017 by JG19_DendroAspis

There is usually a good crew of us using the Official BoS TS channel around 09:30 EST (13:30 GMT) if you care to join us. It's usually pretty fun when we have a good group with good teamwork.
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Here are a few pics to help with ID's. VVS Generally stubby(fat) in appearance Look for wide wing at root tapering toward a rounded tip. Important to distinguish between 190 vs LA5 109s are very slim/pencil-like. Wings are narrower at root and more parallel (higher aspect ratio). There are 2 here that are clearly 109's. The third plane in the distance I would bet is a VVS. I put them next to each other to compare.... Edited May 31, 2017 by JG19_DendroAspis
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Of course the often confused La5 vs FW190.....
