Brizzly Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 (edited) Hi all, Wondering if anyone else has this issue. I would post a pic, but I haven't tried taking a screenshot in VR (my luck is it's probably the same way as out of VR, and someone is about to call me out). Anyway, the issue is that there seems to be a warping of the gunsight when I fly any 109. I mostly only play quick missions, as I don't have a lot of time, but I've definitely been excited to try out VR with this sim. The warping seems to occur more frequently when there are a lot of objects in view, so I think it's probably linked to my graphics settings/system performance. In addition, I've noticed that the aircraft I'm chasing sometimes seems to get jumpy when there are a lot of aircraft/objects/particles on the screen (all single player testing). I've searched the forums, and setup my Nvidia control panel, and in game settings as follows: Resolution 800x600 full screen Graphics Preset: Ultra Terrain: 4x SSAO: Off HDR: Off Antialiasing: Off Sharpen: Off Distant Grass:Off Dynamic Resolution: Full Gamma Correction: 1 Multi GPU: Off If anyone has any ideas on better settings to possibly make things run smoother, but preserve some immersion through eye candy, I would really appreciate it. My system specs are as follows: i7 3770k @4.0ghz, 32GB DDR3, Windows 10 Pro x64, Nvidia GTX 980 with newest drivers (381.89) Game is installed on a 10,000rpm HD, but I'm thinking about moving it to my SSD to help some with performance as well. OrLoK Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I dont fly german planes but i think this is an unwanterd side effect of ASW kicking in.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I believe as Orlok has pointed out, its ASW in the Rift kicking in. I'm quite frequently falling back to the Vive's Asynchronous Reprojection when I drop below 90fps and don't have any problems with the 109 gunsight.

Download the oculus debug tool and disable asynchronous spacewarp before starting BoX. This will stop the gunsight and prop distortion.
Brizzly Posted May 1, 2017 Author Posted May 1, 2017 Awesome, thx for the help guys. I'll try that when I get home and report back.
Nibbio Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 (edited) Download the oculus debug tool and disable asynchronous spacewarp before starting BoX. This will stop the gunsight and prop distortion. Hm, no I'm afraid it doesn't. Tried it multiple times. Somehow the Oculus runtime overrides it. OP didn't say what graphics presets he's running the game at. Performance wise, presets seem to have a huge impact in VR. Now that VR is here I wish the devs gave us more control on graphics and we could get rid of the presets... I'm now running balanced with ingame 2xAA and PD 1.2, terrain 2x withe the terrain.cfg hack. Can't really afford high graphics. Low is even better, but textures are really poor. With these settings ASW kicks in infrequently, at least online. PWCG missions must be generated with low air density though. Edited May 1, 2017 by Nibbio
coconut Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Download the oculus debug tool and disable asynchronous spacewarp before starting BoX. This will stop the gunsight and prop distortion. But then framerate won't be smooth anymore. Might be a problem for some. If you use Oculus Tray Tool, you can enable or disable ASW on the fly using voice control. Enable it when cruising, disable it while dogfighting. Another thing you can try is to enable dynamic resolution ("full" means "disabled", somewhat counter-intuitively). Try for instance a value of 0.9, which means the game will go as low as 90% of the full resolution. You can go all the way down to 0.5 (50%) I believe, but then it becomes very noticeable.

Make sure you first start oculus home, then start the oculus debug tool, then disable ASW, then start BoX. Hope this works for you as the distortion is very distracting.
Brizzly Posted May 1, 2017 Author Posted May 1, 2017 Thanks again guys! I can confirm this worked for me. Or a combination of things. I disabled ASW with the debug tool, per Blackjack's sequence he described above, and I also tried going to a 0.9 on the Dynamic Resolution. I have my graphics presets at Ultra BTW. I edited my post above, but left the Dynamic Resolution as it was, in case anyone else finds this useful. It looks great in VR now!
Highwayman Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Thanks for posting the suggestion BlackJack, I see it once in a while and it can be distracting
marklar Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 You don't need a debug tool to disable ASW. While in game press right ctrl + num 1 to disable or right ctrl + num 4 to enable ASW.

It's really weird and doesn't seem to be an issue of hardware limiting performance. At least according to MSI Afterburner my GPU isn't breaking a sweat even in ultra settings. Does the disabling of ASW cause any other artifacts for you? I notice what seems like tearing occasionally.
