Stukas ignoring waypoint speed

I have my first mission where the player is not flight lead and must fly in formation with the AI. The climb speed seems to be around 250 which is what I always shoot for in the stuka personally, so that's perfect. However when everything gets up to altitude and levels out the cruise speed remains at 250-260 despite all my waypoint speeds being 300. Is the speed just hard coded and not adjustable via the editor? The load out is the standard SC250 + 4xSC70s & 50% fuel for reference. thanks.

Usually that means that the AI is going as fast as it can already.
