SYN_Mike77 Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 I don't know much about VR except that I would like to try it. Saw this article and wondered if it would work. $300 sounds good. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/acer-mixed-reality-hmd-hands-on,34282.html
SYN_Mike77 Posted May 1, 2017 Author Posted May 1, 2017 How do the stats for this system stack up vs rift and vive?
dburne Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 As this unit is apparently not really out into the market yet may be hard to speculate on how it would compare in quality and usage to say a Rift or a Vive. One thing that caught my eye is the claim " up to 90 hz refresh". Both the Rift and Vive run at default of 90 hz. Not sure what would be required to reach 90 hz in this new device... You can view a comparison of the specs of the Rift and Vive here: http://www.techradar.com/news/wearables/htc-vive-vs-oculus-rift-1301375 And then view the specs they have shared on this new Acer device to compare. It appears the Acer is somewhat similar to the Pimax as it has a little higher resolution. But resolution can be a little deceiving, it does not always equate to the image clarity one sees in the headset. I can crank the resolution of my Rift up easily using the Pixel Density adjustments for it ( super sampling), but there are still some shortcomings in image clarity especially in something like a flight sim viewing terrain off at a distance. If all one is going to do with their VR headset is play sitting down games, like flight sims and/or racing sims, then some of these newer less expensive offerings may be worth the investment where money is maybe an issue to at least get the immersion of the VR experience. I would be urge caution though, as these things can and sometime do go bad - having one from a manufacturer with good tech and warranty support can certainly help as well in cases like those. I imagine as VR gains more in popularity we are going to see more and more new offerings from new players as well, it will be interesting down the road after the dust settles to see who remains as the big players in VR tech. 1

It has 38% more pixels so it should be quite good!
OrLoK Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Wait for proper reviews. At the moment its the rift or the vive. Bware or be aware of investing in other cheaper headsets at the moment.
