Very dissapointed by the quality of this game

After spending 120 USD on this game, I would expect a better quality from the Development team of this game:

1. When my VR is not connected to the system, When I launch the game, it thinks I am trying to run it as a VR (Steam VR and Oculus Rift apps automatically launch with IL2).

2. It took me 20~ restarts to only configure the resolution.

3. With all these restarts, I was encountered with the most slowest login system possible.

4. Trees on the landscape looks terrible. I am playing on High-Ultra settings on my GTX1080. Is it a bug?

Hi Zeev, you can check the following:

 

1. There's an option in-game, under settings > graphics, called "Use VR HMD". You have to disable (uncheck) it when not using VR.

2. It works in a single restart for me... No idea on this one.

3. It is certainly slow, but that is due to the game connecting to the master server. If you just want to configure and test your game it's much, much faster if you use the "off-line mode" (in the log-in screen).

4. You may want to check videos and screenshots in the forum to see if they look the same

Unfortunately you are right!

Update after update the game gets worse instead of improving, with constant crashes of the game while you are playing or with continuous restart before you can start playing because the game crashes and you need to quit with ctrl-alt-del... To get in and play sometimes you have to do 4 or 5 restarts of the game!

There are still too many problems that arent fixed while they are developing new scenarios for a game that full costs $ 240!

The only real common crash is the 3 hour or so memory leak..

If you have other regular crashes they are on your system or your fault.

As for the trees they do look a bit average a very long ranges over 6km but thats being worked on im sure.
as most dogfights in WW2 happen around the 3-4K mark trees are secondary concern.

If you want a terrible sim check WT or WoWP

Sorry but my game did not crash in the last months. Stop spreading this. Software is tough, it works flawlessly for some and not so for others. Devs are constantly trying to figure out what is causing problems.

Vr is new thing, of course it's not perfect, they will find some bugs and fix them.

I never had any crashs and I don't think the game gets worse with every patch. Just take the implementation of DirX11 with the 2.006 update, which led to a huge performance boost on my system.

The game has never crashed; either on my old and slow crappy machine or my new super-duper rig. Plus, every update brings more content and/or improvements. The only problems I ever had was key assignments being overwritten, and that's easy to sort out.

3. Restarting after a gfx change is a pain but 20? I think you exaggerate.

 

4. Login isnt speedy but its hardly a long wait. 10/20 seconds?

 

5.trees look fine to me. Perhaps google the terrain.cfg fix. Thats what i use but i don think/know if it affects trees.

I must say, and I say that as an old old FSX simmer, this is far from perfect but still just as enjoyable as FSX ever was.

Regarding the graphics quality, it's ok on my end, not super photo realistic but still ok and improving as I understand.

 

I play on 4K with a 1080OC GPU and didn't CTD yet. The bugs I get are, airports vanishing from the mission map and, sometimes difficulties to end a mission (that could be me doing it wrong)

120 usd for only BOS Strange is it not?! Could you explain with a little more details ?

1. Under the Steam system I am given a choice of how to launch the game; With or without the VR, do you not receive the same choice?!

2. With a PC that is nearly five (5) years old I can run all graphic settings at maximum could you say if yours is much worse?!

3. Yes login is not the most fast of all games but it is not the purpose of the game to enter and quit it but to play it ! And since buying the original IL2 game in 2001, if I am not mistaken, I have played for thousands of hours in all its versions. ( IL2, IL2 Pacific aces,  IL2 1946, IL2 COD, IL2 BOS - BOM- BOK). Single and multiplayers.

4. If you do not like the game it is maybe not for you but I may assure you it is the best you can find on the WW2 market and I am sorry for You but there are thousands of video and still pictures that could give you an idea of the quality of the game.

I do not have crashes to desktop since last patches , meybe because I posted many crash dumps for devs to look at and fix , I recommend you folks with problems do the same. Remember there is nothing more complex that average person own yet not fully comprehend than computing device.

Every time this game gets a boost in good PR and publicity, the forum starts to get flooded with crap like this. I have had a few crashes, but I blame my machine. I'm below the minimum requirements and some of my PC parts are ancient and slightly wonky.

 

But as I have mentioned more than once, if I only have a very few planes in the air (3 or 4) I can fly at ultra settings at 1080 and get rocking FPS and the game looks great. Until I can get an upgrade, that's fine with me.

No doubt some people are having genuine problems, Zeev probably is too. There is a another thread in this forum where others are missing hit and flak sounds; once again genuine issues, However, it is obvious that these are not general issues that effect everyone; so laying these problems at the dev's door with a 'fix it' just doesn't work. You need to look at solutions at your own end first, before troubling the devs. By all means, ask questions and report your issues, but don't assume that your problems are shared by everyone or are the fault of the game.

I had one crash, I tested the sharp thingy in graphic settings and crashed my IL 2 on purpose in two trees , the game crashed, after that I flew a couple of missions in FNBF without any crash. 

I simply say you do not invest 120 $ on something you do not know anything about , without testing the software with a 40$ purchase. And you simply do not go about problems in this manner

Yeah, we've all had a couple of crashes now and again i suspect.

But i cant imagine developing a game to run on every single PC configuration out there is going to be easy.

As for quality..... the game is in no way disappointing.

Maybe now its DX11 and the frame rates are up they could extend the draw distance a bit, but the game development is going in the right direction.

I have to say for me its still a bit 'gamey' and certainly not a sim, but other than that its pretty good, even on my old system.

I think it's actually in the DCS News thread in the free subject area. Some guy called [Edited] hangs out to trash talk Il-2 and it's customers. He is a moderator on DCS forums and likes to ban people from DCS if he finds out they come from here and have positive things to say about Il-2.

 

Don't get me wrong, I don't think people actually a part of ED care about these kind of childish things but there are people from there who are pretty hardcore fanboys and want anything else to fail. There are people like that everywhere. I'm on DCS forums, ATAG forums, SAS 1946 forums and there are people in all of them who have the same attitude. This is why I take these over the top complaint threads for what they are. Someone with a personal axe to grind. If this guy really had such bad problems he could easily get in touch with tech support.

Is that really true? I was about to buy me a couple of planes there, just for the fun of it. Personally I am positive to WT , Anything that bring pleasure in life is good. I do not fly it myself, can't get myself to do those maniac WW1 double-decker manoeuvres with planes that should not be able to perform them. And I am not glad in the arcade outside aiming device.
