TheHighwayman Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) Hello all. I am teaching myself how to build missions, so I have designed a test mission in which 109s are tasked with escorting a pair of Ju52s, one of which is a decoy and the other Mr. H. Here's the problem. Despite setting the cover order, I cannot get the escorts to actually do the escort thing. They fly the correct waypoints, but shouldn't they stick with the '52? Instead, they fly on ahead, as if there's gonna be schnapps and blondes waiting for them. I am attaching my file so folks can have a look and tell me what I've missed. Be sure to look at the most southerly Ju 52 on the field which has TWO 109s next to it for escort. The other Ju 52 is next to four 109s, and that formation is led by the player, so there's no issue with those. Thanks, Hwy Defending the Eagle.zip Edited April 29, 2017 by I./JG54TheHighwayman
Gambit21 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I can look at it tomorrow if nobody has helped by then.
Jade_Monkey Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 The timer that triggers the cover order is not being triggered by anything else. Something needs to start that timer. You also have too many timers for the takeoff command, one should suffice. 1
Gambit21 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 It can be a waypoint, a trigger, Mission Begin MCU, etc, and use a timer so that you can adjust if necessary. Thanks for jumping in Monkey, I'm 90 minutes or so away from being able to fire up the editor still.
TP_Jacko Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 ooooh, I thought the cover order was more for protecting ground units as I could not get them to work at any higher altitudes.
TP_Silk Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 (edited) No Jacko - what I do is set the fighters' first waypoint to just above the planes they want to escort then along the route those planes will take. Once they reach that first waypoint you can issue a cover command with object as the lead fighter (assuming you are using activate rather than spawn) and target as the lead aircraft to be escorted. The only fly in the ointment is that with spawned objects they don't appear to use the "follow the leader" logic so you have to improvise and use multiple assignments to get it to work properly in case of one aircraft being lost (at least I do).
