123-Sturm Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Hi I've only just started using this and I'm having major difficulty setting up keymappings. Keypresses sometimes work, then stop working, then work again. Some keys never seem to register with the game when set to certain commands, but not others. The game also appears ( again, only sometimes ) to interpret keypresses as multiples eg. you hit Control-Y, the game performs action mapped to Control-Y AND action mapped to Y. It's driving me mad trying to get a system set up - is there a known bug in this area or perhaps an arcane way of doing it that I have missed. ( Have reinstalled and reverified ) Running on Windows 7-64. Cheers
123-Sturm Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 You are using joystick programmer software? Yes, the Saitek SST software. But I've been testing using the keyboard directly since the results were so odd and I see it happening using the keyboard. Even mapping keys without Ctrl or Alt has no effect ( most of the time - sometimes it will work once then never again eg. I set Manual/Auto prop pitch to key Y. When I press Y, I get an ingame message that I've switched to Manual PP. I press it again ... nothing. It refuses to switch back. But I remember that it DID switch back and forth when I had a key conflict with something else - it just did both actions. ) I'm baffled
Sokol1 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Whit that programs for "press joystick buttons to press keyboard keys to send commands for games" is need use delay between keys to avoid that press Ctrl+C and game see this and only C command - this is BoS "peculiarities".
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 jittery pots like throttle movement and sider or even the wheel knobs will have bad pots that move you need to null them out with a dead zone.

I know, I'm testing using basic un-adjusted keys directly on the keyboard and still getting the problem It's quite maddening.

( Have reinstalled and reverified ) I know how frustrating this can be, as it took me the realization that to solve this issue, you're gong to need to rebind the combo commands that conflict with each other in IL-2 before mapping to your device software. This was the case for both my Saitek software and my VKB software. What I ultimately did, was make a spreadsheet of all the IL-2 default commands, so I could see them laid out on paper. Then, I rebinded commands that conflicted with each other. For example: The default Flaps command is F. But there are numerous other commands that use F with a modifier. To solve this, simply change the F for flaps to another modified F command, then keep F unassigned. This way, there is no conflicts when using any modified F command. Hope this helps.
123-Sturm Posted May 14, 2017 Author Posted May 14, 2017 Brilliant idea, Warpig - I have cobbled together a working version by ruthlessly eliminating any command that isn't necessary, but my approach was to simply use all the unmodified keypresses. Your method is logically superior - eliminate the basic and the modified command has nothing to be confused with. Superb, thank you. At least I'm in the air now. Thanks to all who assisted in this thread.
