Graphical engines?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I admit i'm completely lost on the subject.

What i know is ROF and BOS are both using Digital Nature engine...that's about it!

I have few very noob questions about those graphical engines:

1)  What kind of engines are using CloD and DCS?

2) What are the main differences between engines? (And what are their limitation?)

3) How many existing engines in actual flight sims?

4) Can an engine influence/interact on FM? (or only visual eye candy effects?)

5) Will Edge be the principal opponent to Digital Nature? (Is Edge already existing?)

6) Any web links about those different engines?

Thanks for your answers  :salute:

So i guess everybody has the same level of knowledge about graphical engine than me!

Clod in DX10 mode uses what is called a deferred rendering, whereas RoF/BoS is using a more traditional/older style forward rendering pipeline. This is how the game creates what you see on screen, aka the graphics.

Here is a basic description of the differences, but you can find plenty more by putting the two above terms into google;

EDIT: this link might be a bit better

Thanks both of you

5) EDGE belongs to Eagle Dynamics. I can't see them licensing that to 1C / 777 or why 1C / 777 would want them to?

No, wasn't clear enough...and after your replies, my question is...pointless.

Was wondering what is actually the best flight sim engine on market (thinking DG could be the one) and if Edge will take the first place (when include in flight sim)

Clod in DX10 mode uses what is called a deferred rendering

That explain why CloD has such an amazing lighting!:

"Deferred rendering has become popular lately has requirements for a realistic lighting increased."
