Scojo Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 The trailer looks good. I think this might actually be a successful game. The whole idea of the series was an extension of Medal of Honor - you are just one of many guys gone to war and it's hell, but despite every hardship you charge into it. With COD 1 and 2 it always felt like this, I have always considered these games a partial tribute to the heroism of people who fought in that war. And it looks like someone finally asked the question: what does the title even mean, if we are fighting bad space people in space or robots? While sceptical, I see they also have some good ideas to not make it Modern Warfare Reskinned: - no more regenerating health, you need to call for a medic - no more ammo boxes, you need to call you squadmate so they can throw you ammo - multiplayer progression is to be redesigned - players will advance into better divisions, getting new uniforms, division insignia and such (I think they intend to copy the progression from Day of Infamy somwhat) - a new large battle oriented gamemode with objectives and stuff So yeah, that golden BAR probably won't be unlockable. I think they might actually have gone for some sense and the "back to the roots" thing is just a slogan, since I see plenty quite brave ideas for the series. Those classic WWII shooters are actually making a return and generating some hype (Battalion 44, Days of War, Day of Infamy etc) and I think that Sledgehammer has to take some queues from there. In any case, I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Just because something is Call of Duty, does not mean it has to suck. I still love the first two games (and United Offensive). Extension of Medal of Honor? Medal of honor had you, a army regular, infiltrate Nazi bases and destroy secret weapons, no? Nothing along the lines of being a part of a larger team. Even early CoD was that way. Remember the mission to secure the dam? Just you, no fellow soldiers helping at all lol. I remember playing that whole mission thinking how silly the whole premise was. And it sounds like they're trying to go the Battle Field route without vehicles.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 (edited) I miss the large infantry only BF2 servers. If COD is headed that route I'll actually buy in. Shooters are fun. I get sucked into good flight sims. Shooters, on the other hand, are just a little distraction and I enjoy the time mos-spent on occasion. They don't have to be absolutely historical. [CPT]milopugdog Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I complained to some friends about the Bk 3.7 cm on the Ju-87 firing like a machine gun, and apparently I'm nitpicking. Was anyone else bugged by it? 1
Scojo Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 I complained to some friends about the Bk 3.7 cm on the Ju-87 firing like a machine gun, and apparently I'm nitpicking. Was anyone else bugged by it? I'm over being bugged by Hollywood, authors, and game developers getting stuff wrong. It'll never go away for many reasons. Plus, for most settings, it would be impossible to look up the facts on everything that makes it into a book/movie/game, so you have to let some things slide. Also, you have to remember the audience they're targeting. They're not going to notice or care at all, so no point in spending the time to get things right.
