A very strange out of body experience in Stalingrad

Ok I am flying the Stalingrad campaign in VR. Currently in  Chapter 3 of Part 1.

Just flew an Interceptor mission in my Yak-1. Flew to the action point, altitude of 4000m. Was to intercept enemy bomber formation.

Just as I was getting close, all of a sudden wham I am outside of my plane - floating in the air literally. Now in VR, let me tell you this was very strange indeed. There I am , at app 4000m looking down and expecting I should start falling. But I don't. I am just floating there.

Well that is strange enough, but lemme tell ya it doesn't end there lol. I look off in the distance and see a Yak-1. It is turning, and starting to head towards me. Ok that is cool.

It continues heading toward me, right dead center at my position growing in size of course as it gets close.

I keep watching, and them blammo! It flies right into me. I let out a loud gasp, as it truly terrified me in VR!

Then, just like that, bam  I am back in my Yak-1 !

I guess that was my Yak-1 that flew away and came back to me to get me back in the cockpit LOL!

Funniest thing, and about the scariest thing, I have seen so far!

I continued on and damaged a couple of bombers, but I had 109's all over me and don't know what the heck happened to my wingmen, they were no where to be found. Guess they got caught up in the vortex ring or something. Took some major damage but made it back to the exit point for an emergency landing.

Gotta have a smoke after that one, think I am still shaking LOL.

Well that's an odd experience! :)

We're you by chance close to the edge of the map?

Thats what I was wondering.

Don, have you tried flying over Moscow in the QMB yet?    When you get to the flyable edge of the map you get ejected from the cockpit and watch as the game takes charge of your plane and flies it out of the "forbidden zone"!

I was at the action point of the mission itself, and yes it appeared to be close to the edge of the map.

Thats what I was wondering.

LOL, not sure I want to do that again anytime real soon, but will have to give it a try someday.

It was certainly very weird floating out there in VR.

Don, your descriptions of flying BoS in VR are.....well, its bad news for my middle son.   He graduates in a few weeks and is planning on working his ass off this summer and then taking a year out to travel round the world in the company of his very charming young lady.

The more I read about you VR guys experiences with BoS.....I think the Bank of Dad might have to seriously consider calling in a couple of the medium term loans made to sonny boy in the last few months and invest in a Rift.

Poor kid.  She really does look very charming in her bikini too.

I'll just have to tell him;  you made me do it! :salute:

The edge of the map is very confusing at first.

Ive had a couple of missions where i take off facong the "red zone" and just as im coming up to altitude, there goes my Yak.

Ive never had it boomerang back to collect me though!

LOL, now don't go taking anything away from him!

Yeah that was the strangest - and scariest thing. That big ass plane coming right at me and then blam!

I think all my sensories just exploded on me at the same time lol.

And then there I was, back in that cockpit.

But man, just floating there in thin air, looking down in VR - was astounding.

I had the very same experiences several times in VR - I am new to the game so did not know about map boundaries

The plane coming back and finding yourself back in the cockpit was so jarring and unnerving that I had to close my eyes right before "impact"

This is funny. I was giving my sister-in-law a demon-stration of BOS and the next moment she was floating a 1000m minus plane. The plane does a 180 and returns back to her, but just before it does, I say "Erm, this is when you should close your eyes!". Kind of terrifying! I never want to get used to that, just in case I have some sort of mental break and think I'm still in VR when really there's a real plane or vehicle heading for me.
