Is anybody here that is lucky enough to have a VR set up using an RX480 GPU?

If so, which VR set are you using?

Starting to save towards this now, but was hoping to get away with my graphics card for a bit if possible.

Cheers

I have an RX 480 and Oculus Rift.  Haven't gotten around to trying it yet, because I expect to be sorely disappointed.

I'll give it a go soon and report back.

I run a Rx480 with a Vive. It works well with a AMD 8320 8 core and 16 gig of Ram.

Thanks very much, guys!  I didn't see your replies until now for some reason.

Let me know how it's going with the Oculus, BlueHeron!

Sorry, only saw this now.

With the graphics set to minimal settings, BoX performs quite well on Oculus with the RX 480.  I get a steady 45 FPS, sometimes even up to 90.

I played like this for a while, but really miss the light and shadow effects and detailed textures.  I just got a 1080 Ti but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.  Will report back on that later.

I think you will be pleased!

Are you sure you're not limited by the CPU ? I have RX 480 on a Ryzen 1700 (both a little overclocked) and I'm at 45 fps much of the time at ultra settings (single player with no super sampling )...

@Kemal, what's your secret?  I can barely achieve that with the 1080 Ti?

With settings on High, I get a constant 45fps (probably with ASW) and things look more smooth and solid.  It's really hard to tell whether ASW is active or not.

Come to think of it, I couldn't get my 1080 Ti higher than 45fps even on low settings!  Strange because my cores don't seem to be maxed out at all.

If you get constant 45fps, there is no doubt it's ASW.

Il2 is very demanding on the cpu. I would say that if your gpu isn't maxed out (unless some limiting factor like vsync or asw), you're very likely being cpu limited even when the cpu cores aren't maxed out.

In order not to need ASW, you have to be running at > 90fps. Maybe your gpu is getting you 84fps and mine only 48fps, but with ASW, we both end up getting 45fps...

I'm not an expert on this but this is what I've observed so far.

Sounds about right.  GPU 40%, CPU 50-60%, but still can't crack 45FPS.  I'll try downloading the Oculus tool and see what happens.

Something very wrong there mate...

With game settings on Ultra with 1.5XSuper sampling (almost 4K res)

GTX1080 Ti should be pulling 90-140 fps on VR (if it was not locked to 90) with a FX8350 or better CPU.

I mean heck non VR on 1080Ti ultra @ 4K res all game options maxed out 1080Ti will easily pull 120-180 fps without sycn (Single player) and 100-140fps Multiplayer

Make sure you are using the CORRECT Nvidia control panel Profile below.

The "power management" option is very important since driver changes.

I believe it is likely his CPU that is limiting his performance...

Was thinking about getting a 580, but will probably just hold out for the next gen ATI cards.

Thought about going NVidia but I've been using ATI cards for 15 years and familiar with the setup and menus and want to stick with the brand.

Was planning to do the same, but didn't want to wait another 3 months.  ;)
