Consistant game crash when killed while flying an IL-2 1941

I've noticed a strange trend from the recent update with the VR support and non-VR optimisations. The game always crashes by freezing, the controls info on the right goes out of bounds likely due to a memory leak problem and then ending with the screen going black.

The sounds can be heard in the background however it is impossible to alt-tab or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to run task manager nor use WIN+R to run command prompt or anything after this has happened. Even if I can hear the chat sounds in the background, the chat box is unusable.

 

I tried to take a second a third screenshot on consequent failures using steam's overlay feature but it didn't seem to work this time or the other time but I at least have this one to show, showing the controls info going out of bounds:

 

This problem only happens when I am killed (I hear the sounds of my plane diving, or exploding or tossing about with parts seperating from the aircraft during the freeze) while flying the 1941 model IL-2.

I did not have EnableErrorReporting registered at the time but now I do. I will come back when I feel like crashing the game again and have the dump file
