(980Ti I74770)

I've got it on like 0.5 the thing I like about it is that it only kicks in when your performance starts spluttering and thats ussually when your diving towards an airport and dont notice much anyhow. Seems to be a very good idea of the devs to use it I think. With it on you see it enables me to use AA when its really needed, flying around and admiring the view, in combat I dont really care as most of the time I am looking down the sights through one eye anyhow!

Nobody else use it?

CFG terrain edit

2x AA

Low graphics

0.5 dynamic res

PD 1.4

The rest off

I gave it a try and seemed to like my image quality better with it off.

I get pretty good performance though already.

So do I, and it only really kicks in if you play something like the SP autumn campaign when it's really needed cause that has a lot of stuff going on. Also didn't like it myself till I combined it with the terrain cfg and settings above. Acts like a failsafe but 95 percent of the of the time you don't see it.

Sorry for the question @TheNoobleWurtha, new to this.  I'm running with a 980Ti & 3930K, I have set it to Low like yourself, AA OFF, PD 1.3 and usually have 45fps at ground level and maybe up to 5/600feet then 90fps.  What is the CFG Terrain edit and will this make the lower level flying be at 90fps too?

This will help you the OP provides links to get the terrain cfg that I used, the one in the link works great for me, really made things so much better, and enables me to turn everything off If I wish, and it still looks much better than vanilla (it's no longer a horrible jaggy mess) but also seems to work much better with dynamic res. For me I think it gives a

Dynamic res is basically choosing better performance at the cost of visual clarity (it will go blurry) at the times when your fps plummets, it won't look as good but it will be much smoother and as soon as you are clear of huge engagements (down low) that bog down the system it will look great again. If you have the same settings as myself it really doesent look that bad if only temporary, though I like to turn off sharpness which kinda hides shoddy textures. I guess it won't be for everyone, but if I want to do things like play the autumn single player campaign (which can be very intensive) it can be vital.

This terrain file is more resourceful than vanilla, yes?  For me when I use vanilla it becomes a 'jaggied mess' when I have Dynamic Resolution (DR) on 0.6/0.7 on or near the ground with graphics level Balanced or above.  I will test this but what you are saying  is with the higher terrain edit, even though at 45fps on ground with DR looks better than vanilla terrain without DR?  The only difference between our setting is that you are using 2xAA as well as a higher PD setting.

I will try your settings and see if it makes things crisper/clearer.

EDIT:  YES DR works well!  Much MUCH better than when you use the vanilla terrain.

@TheNoobbleWurtha, just want to vote up your post and say thank you.  My game runs so much better in performance & looks by taking on your advice. :thank_you::good:

Cant take the credit dude, its the terrain CFG that makes all the diffrence you dont even need AA to be honest I'm just being greedy, but I use  dynamic res (now 0.7) in order to compensate for my use of AA and a high pixel density. This makes it look great most of the time, but when things dip DR will kick in and keep performance smooth. Not sure if I need to go lower but I dont need to use 0.5 I dont think at least not for the vanilla campaign or multiplayer.

I do find the settings I have work very well for me and I am very happy with how they look. The main most important thing for me when playing is a combination of fluidity and no horrible jagged lines everywhere! The vannila looks awful without AA but with that terrain CFG you dont even need AA.

I dont really NEED DR but it is definatly something to be aware of if you come across missions that are too much for your normal settings to handle.

I've got DR on about 0.7 I think, it only kicks in occaionally. One thing its really useful for is the SP DLC autumn campaign as that is very taxing but alot of fun to play. Hoenstly even with DR it can struggle sometimes thats why I think the main campaign is such a great thing for VR. People hate it but I thank God that they didnt make all the missions too taxing, and hope the dynamic campaign will be made with VR performance in mind. I think it will tbh as the BOS devs are aiming pretty mainstream.

Performance is way more important than how the game looks but that being said the vanilla without any AA was painfully jaggy and I dont think I could have played it like that!

Any way dude glad you're happy spread the word and happiness, me I'm gonna do another Stuka dive bombing in VR (with the siren!).....

WHAT....

Terrain.Cfg changes Still Require Use of Anti Aliasing
ONLY Thing Terrain.Cfg changes is the Level of Detail of Ground Texture.
IT DOES NO EFFECT ANY ANTI A

@Sshadow14, what was meant is that in VR using PD in the Steam VR.cfg file is enough without needing AA in-game once you have the terrain.cfg file.

Currently when you use the vanilla terrain and DR in VR, when it kicks in, the jaggies look terrible, but with the terrian.cfg & DR things look a lot better.
