SCuMattly Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Hi all, Since the VR patch a number of us have purchased BoS and/or BoM to enjoy the experience of flying WW2 planes in VR. Personally I have X-plane and FSX but have never played any of the iL-2 games. So my group have been trying things out on an Australian server "iL2 Australia" and had a very positive experience up to a point. The issue we are struggling with is that the server is set to Hardcore and in trying a few other servers we see this is a common server setting. This is a real issue for us newbies. We are happy with realistic flight characteristics and reduced/no hud etc but engine management is just both very indepth and difficult to sort out when you have a VR headset on. So my question is, Is there server in this part of the world where we don't have to handle this part of the sim? I think there is always a balance between fun and realism. This is especially true when trying to encourage more people to play online. With the VR patch you are going to get an influx of people who may not have even used a joystick before and if you want to retain them you will need to be conscious of how steep a learning curve they will tolerate. Our group will be putting up a server but we would prefer to join an existing one if a moderate setting was available. Your thoughts? P.S THE VR in BoS is the best I have yet experienced in a flying sim, it's just awesome. 1
=IL2AU=chappyj Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) hi, I run the IL2 Australia server. up until 2 months ago there wasnt any AU servers at all which is why i put it up and made some missions. even then we barely break 10 online at one time most nights on there... so the community is still small. if theres a specific day you think you would use it and have the ability to provide the missions/settings i can probably adjust on that day with a custom server config. Feel free to check the sticky in the multiplayer forum, and feel free to join the IL2 Australia discord group as well. invite here https://discord.gg/UrY8t77 i can add a squad group and assign roles to your members and provide a voice channel in there as well. Generally speaking the majority of players online tend to gravitate to the expert settings. but i can certainly see your point about the influx of newer people with vr. anyway, jump on the Discord app and join us for some chats and a bit of flying, plenty of guys on there willing to give assistance on flying and engines as well etc. Edited April 20, 2017 by =WFPK=chappyj 1
SCuMattly Posted April 20, 2017 Author Posted April 20, 2017 Hi Chappy Thanks for replying to my post(s). I will jump on discord and find you over the weekend. Last night we added a new member to our group that know a bit about engine management so making progress there. I managed to not stuff my engine and instead just get lost after attacking a friendly airport! Haha. Planning to be on tonight and hopefully kill something i'm meant to.
