Hey all.

Seems to be a big hit, the VR thing.

I'm mulling the idea around but I'm not sure what the requirements are as far as GPU.

I'm currently running a gtx980, and all is well right now but I'm not sure it's got the horsepower to run VR.

I think the 970 is the min spec for the Rift. I think Steam and Nvidia both have utilities that'll check you system and let you know where your rig stands.

I run a i5 7600k and 1070 and can run at high settings with VR. The ASW kicks in from time to time and distorts your view through the sight and prop...which is pretty annoying if your trying to line up on someone...but I fly the 110 mostly so it's really a none issue for me.

I think for a game like this CPU is very important and the game doesent utilize fully some of the more powerful GPU's enough as it is. VR is becoming like the old days in PC gaming and a GPU arms race, I only bought my 980Ti last year and already feel that it's fallen far behind!

Before VR it wouldn't have been a problem, but even the 1080Ti's are not exaxtly blitzing games like this and cannot maintain a constant 90 all of the time so if you buy one of them, like me with the 980Ti, the day is fast approaching when you'll need to upgrade once again. This would drive me insane, and I don't want to become one of those PC users who spends more time worrying about performance and better computers than his, than he does just enjoying what he's got!

I want my next computer to be able to run run both sturmovik and DCS at a constant 90 fps, but from the looks of things that could be a while. I can only assume this is because the cards are not being utilized properly which might also mean I might not even need to upgrade and one day the will be better optimized.

I think it depends how patient you are. You certainly do need to upgrade (I do too), but whether it's a good time to upgrade now, I don't think so.

VR at the moment is wonderful but frustrating, you will spend more time tinkering with it than playing, and the software demands of a flight sim like DCS and BOS exceed even the most powerful of computers. If you wait a year or too however, these games may get better optimized, or cards and CPU's will be released that can indeed play these simulators at a constant 90fps. You could also get the second generation headset. I do get the feeling that if you can control yourself, as I didn't, you will really be thanking yourself in the end.

The again I regret nothing as when I get home this evening I can fly. The worst thing is flying in VR is bad performance as you can see how wonderful it is, and cannot enjoy it!

GTX980 here...VR runs smoothly for me at Ultra settings. PC specs in my sig.

i7 and GTX970 and the game run smoothly on most settings, although with ASW enabled.

The drawback of ASW is that at certain angles aircraft ID is much more difficult, so I may upgrade my graphic card soon.

Uwe, its more about the CPU in here. As long as your GPU can handle VR alone( go to Vive or Rift website to test your settings) look at your CPU. I run a AMD 8320 3.5 ghz with a XFX R480 8 ghz and I am able to run High settings in a server at 40 to 50 FPS no problem on the Vive. So CPU over 3.5 (I don't know if cores matter, I got 8) you should be fine.

Edit:

I will add Vive doesn't have the ASW in the way the Rift does so I don't see this blurry thing Rift pilots talk about.
