Flossyeus Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 If I only fly offline is the JU 52 still worth getting? I can see the appeal of using it in multiplayer but I'm not ready for that yet! Are the quick missions enough to justify the cost? Thanks
Finkeren Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 You can fly the Ju 52 in the Stalingrad campaign as well, I think.
dburne Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) You can fly the Ju 52 in the Stalingrad campaign as well, I think. No, I don't see the Ju 52 or the Yak-1b collector planes as available in the Stalingrad campaign. At least not in the part I am in, currently in Chapter 1. Can certainly fly them in quick or single missions though, so should be able to get plenty of enjoyment out of them. Plus probably any user created campaigns/missions, as well as the upcoming new career mode. So go ahead and grab it! Edited April 18, 2017 by dburne
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 You can fly the Ju52 in both Stalingrad and Moscow campaigns. The Stalingrad campaign has it available for all 5 chapters in the winter. I didn't check the summer and fall campaigns. The single player campaign missions come in a few varieties and I actually had a lot of fun flying them. I should go back and fly some. If you enjoy the flight part with combat as secondary or peripheral to your experience then the Ju52 is a ton of fun. Its like flying a mostly civil aircraft in a warzone which really amps the tension up and makes for some dramatic and challenging missions. I wrote more about it... might help you get a sense of what flying this plane is like: https://stormbirds.wordpress.com/2017/01/07/reviewing-the-ju523m/
Cybermat47 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) I barely fly MP, but the Ju-52 is well worth it for singleplayer. Edited April 18, 2017 by Cybermat47
Jade_Monkey Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I have a feeling you will see some SP missions for the Ju52 this year (made by the community). I find the Ju52 to be a very nice plane to fly, it's like going for a stroll without all the tension of the tight maneuvers and fast action. The cockpit is very interesting too, it doesnt look like any other plane in the game.
Monostripezebra Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 It´s even superfun in quickmissions.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7w5pM7w48A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBQa6r-Xag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VD5kRCbHvQ Join and fly AIR STALINGRAD! 1
JG4_Sputnik Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Are there missions where you have some nice cluttered airfields to land on? Or is everything deserted as in all the campaign? I don't have the Ju (yet), but I think this plane would really benefit from some atmospheric surroundings. But if it is lifeless like the campaign then I'm not sure if I should get it for that price.
Flossyeus Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 Thanks all, that's helped me to decide. Buying now!
InProgress Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) I will just say that in for multi it's not worth, there are almost no missions with ju52, and if there are you don't really do anything at all, no tasks for you. It will (i hope) change in the future, in single it's ok, but you have only 3 missions i think, drop ammo, drop patartroopers, or deliver cargo. I paid 20€, it's fun plane but i think it feels a bit too easy to fly it, not sure if it's realistic but you don't really do much, while in ju87 i broke engine first few times before i learned it while here it's nothing. Press "I" wait 1min to start, and go, no controll of anything, it will fly anyway. Wish there was more missions for it, not sure if worth 20€ or 25€ just for SP, but i don't regreat, it's one of my favorite planes in ww2 so it was must have :] just wish for more missions, med evac etc. Edited April 18, 2017 by InProgress
Scojo Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Someone in the JU-52 appreciation crowd was making some JU-52 scripted missions. I don't know what came of it, but check out that appreciation thread and also the mission section and you might find something
Jade_Monkey Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Yes, Gambit21 was working on a scripted campaign. I know he was busy lately, so i'm not sure about how far along he is. All i can say is that it's quality work and you will get plenty of atmosphere down to the smallest detail. 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 If you're willing to get into the mission editor you can setup some fun missions with it (including open field Medevacs or Staff ferrying). The reason it does not work out that well in MP at the moment is because mission designers lack good ideas on how to implement it properly (they're mainly used for para drops in combated areas which is not ideal for the Ju 52). The 52 comunity is pretty small but you'll find they're very friendly and helpfull people. Happy landings in your new Tante Ju 1

All i can say is that it's quality work and you will get plenty of atmosphere down to the smallest detail. That will be exciting for VR users. JU-52 in the campaign he's described will be the perfect VR experience since it'll be all about the ambiance. I flew a JU52 mission in the campaign a little while back. I'm pretty sure it was Stalingrad. Had an early morning paratrooper drop over a town where fires were set for signaling where to drop. The sunrise was nice. That will probably be your best option for a quick and decent SP experience in the aircraft. And TBH, I know you said SP, but you really should look into flying the JU52 in FNBF. FNFB is the most pleasant MP experience I've had in a flight sim. It really feels like SP but with nice humans instead of AI. Nil frequents it in the 52, so he'd love to talk to you about it to see if you'd be up for it, I'm sure. 1
Scojo Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Hurray! He did it! I know what I'll be trying out this evening

Plenty of campaign to do in single player. In multi, there is job to do in Random Expert. Like Scojo said, there is also the FNBN, an incredible experience to live. Flying Tante Ju is very thrilling and made me live fun experience and tension I never had in a flight sim before. Makes me respect and consider even more real life Luftwaffe transport crews. Enjoy!
Guest deleted@30725 Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Thanks all, that's helped me to decide. Buying now! I quickly discovered that while it's a pretty boring plane on the surface since it has no guns, the flying experience, the thing that I like about Il2 is what makes this plane fun. It's a historical important relic that is fun to fly. I love doing night ops in it and it ends up being a different experience requiring a different attitude and thought process to use. The only issue for me was that it seemed like a lot of money for what it is. Although I ended up buying it at full price because I wanted to, not because I felt I had to. Good luck with it.
sinned Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 For me, Ju52 is well worth the money. Dev spent time for it and I would like to support the dev. Is JU52 fun to fly? Yes, Could dev have developed other sellable features that is worth more money for buyers? No brainer. Could dev have developed other sellable features that could bring more money? No brainer. Fyi, those ppl here that supposely fly exciting ju52 in mp, i never seen them in ju52. Fyi it is also a fact, number of ju52 were given out for free, but large portion was not even activated. Bottom line, buy ju52 to support for more.
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Fyi it is also a fact, number of ju52 were given out for free, but large portion was not even activated. You have access to sales information that we don't have?

Fyi, it's equally really obnoxious hearing folks continually harp for another vvs plane or kid themselves how JU52 is "sound success". OP asked for opinions to decide on his/her JU52 purchase, so I gave my honest opinion: it is worth it so buy it. Do yourself a favor. Stick to the purpose of this thread - offline Ju52.
