I'm just happy to see some good discussion going on in here. I both appreciate the work that went into implementing VR and hope to see continued if limited efforts taken to improve an already solid framework. Seems I ruffled more than a few feathers but I think there is value in this kind of feedback even if it is less than popular. As for there being different places to discuss this sure but I doubt you'd get more than a post or two and no real community feedback. First post I made here in this forum drew a response from a dev. Call it what you will but praise and concern can be carried in either hand.

VR will improve, even if that just means throwing a next gen GPU at it, to maintain the 90FPS. Further optimisations may be possible, but this is a small dev team isn't it. I don't know of many games that have yet integrated VRworks. I suspect this maybe more difficult than we imagine, unless you use the latest unreal or unity game engines that have it built in.

I think that because Frontier have not already integrated VRworks into Elite Dangerous, that held the VR torch for so long as being one of the best VR experiences out there, and considering the size of their dev team, says to me that they feel it is either too difficult in terms of man hours, or not worth while considering the amount of VR users that also have multi Nvidia GPU's

The VR implementation in this sim is exceptional compared to other options out there.  I'd never played BoS prior to them implementing VR and now I'd buy their content without hesitation.

Coming exclusively from DCS where VR used to be good and has slowly got worse with each new build I still get impressed how well it's done here.

The VR-Implementation in this game is great. But i experience a strange behavior when my plane is standing on the ground or while in pause-mode. In these cases "my view" moves to any direction i'm looking. If i look to the right, my view will translate also to the right in a certain degree. This is very annoying, especially when taxiing on the ground. Sometimes my body will be completely out of place and hover beside my plane. I feel a little nausea with this odd behavior in VR.

Is this bug already known and adressed? Or is there any fix for this?

Maybe you should reposition you Tracker?

about getting out of your plane, there is an option for restricting your view to not clip through the plane (cant remember the name of it though)

i have no such bug so i cant help much :/

I think what he is referring to is the view drift you experience when you bring up the map for example. I experience it, and I think it *may* be worse depending on how far you are from centered in your tracking space.

For the drifting for me, this only occurs when paused or with the map open. When closing the map the view drifts back.

My Tracker must be okay, because i don't have any issues while flying. The issue appears only when the game is paused or while on surface with very low to zero speed.

Good tip with that restriction option. I'll try this out. Maybe this will help.

Yes, that's what i meant. The view drifts sideways to the direction i was looking. But only when my plane stands still (pause or on surface). I'll try out the player's head restriction option. Hopefully it'll solve this behavior. Thank you!

Your view should not drift when sitting still in the plane and not paused and no map open.

As i mentioned. The drift appears only when the game is paused or the plane is landed. While flying, everything is completely fine. No drift, no odd behavior, no other tracking issues. So i think it's not a tracking problem, but some sort of a bug.

Frame rate and refresh ? Maybe not so much drift as a catch up jump.

Don't know. I always turn off ASW because of the prop-double-vision issue. But i can clearly say, it doesn't matter if i play it on low or high or with or without ASW. My System is a i7 2600 with a GTX 1070 and 32 GB RAM.

What is a "catch up jump"?

What is a "catch up jump"?

In layman's terms (because I'm a layman who doesn't pretend to know much about anything)  it's when the game skips a few frames in order to catch up, I suppose it's the VR equivalent of internet lag.  It's probably far less evident in games, even if demanding enough to dip the frame rates below 90 FPS if your head position or view doesn't change, but with flight sims we are often changing views, or looking around quicker than the refresh rate can keep up so it misses a couple of frames to catch up but might end up looking like drift or a jump.  if your frame rate stays at, or above, 90 even when looking at the map etc then you wouldn't see any drift.

I could be well wrong though and it may not relate to what you're experiencing at all.

Thank you for explaining!

I don't think this is the reason. It would also appear, if i had bad fps, right? So i had a PWCG-Mission with tons of objects and the fps were getting down in some situations. But this issue didn't appear, because the game was not paused. It is definitely not fps-related.

I have the same issue when paused.  It's like the tracking is paused when the game menu is paused.  It resets itself when you unpause though.

Does not happen in the vive, only with the rift.

Yes, when i unpause the game, it resets itself. It's not that bad when paused, but on the surface, when taxiing, it's irritating and nauseaing.

I just hit the centre VR button as soon as I exit the  pause menu to avoid the slew back to centre.  Have got used to it now though.

I have the exact same issue. The moment you "pause" you start floating towards the front. Nothing to do with frame rate this or tracker position that.

I assumed everyone had this issue. Maybe its something to do with the fact that I have a room scale setup but my seated cockpit is in the corner of that room (although I doubt it).

Anyway, I know exactly what you are referring to and its most annoying but it only happens to me when I pause the game.

Yep same here, I only have that whilst the sim is paused. Normally when I unpause the view goes back to where it was.

Regarding Elite Dangerous and Eve Valkyrie. Remember that these games were built from the ground up with VR in mind. Eve Valkyrie makes use of VRWorks, which I can tell you the performance is most impressive with SLI 1080 GPU's

BoX on the other hand has done a remarkable job considering that VR has been introduced to the game after the fact. From what I am told VRWorks can not be integrated, because it needs dx12 to make use of most of the features. In game on the MP servers I play with the HUD on I hold 45 FPS, with high settings.

I have a 4970k not overclocked, 32gb ram, and sli 1080's, although only one GPU is used for VR so far as I know

do you think upgrading from a 980ti is worth it ? thinking for 1080 or 1080ti but i wonder if the money is well spent. I only get 90 fps atm on super low settings. I'd like to have 90 fps and crank up viewdistance and play it at least on medium
