VR in MP

I don't have VR, at least not yet.  Most of my flying time is spent in MP.  There are many wonderful descriptions in various threads about VR and specific flight experiences.  Thanks to all for sharing these.  It is not always clear however if the experiences are on-line or off-line.  What I hope to find out here is more about use of VR specifically within MP.  If you have used it in a server, could you please take the time to jot down your thoughts.  Which server would also be helpful.   Thanks!

The biggest obstacle in my opinion is properly identifying aircraft. The two successful dogfights I've been in while flying a fighter in WoL I've had to rely on either friendly AAA shooting at an enemy aircraft or overshooting my target to get a good look at his red stars.

I do prefer to fly attack aircraft though, so flying in the weeds with a 110 in VR is an awesome experience.

I asked someone this in game, they said Spotting was easier, but to ID a plane is harder.

+1

Bombers, attack aircraft, Stukas and Ju52s are great in VR. I can´t do dogfights. Identifying is difficult, and I can´t turn my head like an eagle owl and I get motion sickness.

Exactly! Spotting and evaluate planes trajectories in VR is much easier because you feel the space. But the bad resolutions of Rift/Vive mean you need to be very close to be able to see if it's ally or enemy!

I find both spotting and IDing much easier in this sim than DCS. I have a tough time tracking targets during a dogfight due to the cockpit view restrictions, but I still think my situational awareness is significantly better than a monitor. More often that not when I manuever with a blind angle on my opponent, they end up coming out where I am watching for them. VR makes so much more spatial sense than flat simming. Your angles, speeds, the geometry at large just follows your natural intuitions. This makes gunnery, precision flying like formation stuff, and landing so much easier as well.

I think you can be plenty competitive in VR. But I think competition can't be your main priority. Instead, prioritize immersion, feeling, and the experience. That way you'll enjoy your time simming even as you Hop out of your burning wreck for the fourth time that day.

I was a bit worried about spotting in vr because I found it quite hard in DCS. But in IL-2 it is has been quite easy. Identifying the plane is harder than it is with monitor. Checking your six requires a lot more effort than it does with TrackIR. But overall I'm going give this game thumbs up for online combat without icons.

Edit: I use mainly Wings of Liberty server.
