ive noticed when in the normal game that my framerate is locked at 60 FPS, no matter what i set as the "target fps" in graphics settings.

when in VR, the menu sits at 44/45 fps, and in game it is 29/30 fps. it acts like its capped at these framerates, any idea why?

Async Time warp is kicking in.. its to make it seem smoother than it is. if you dip below ~70fps it will kick in.

You need to lower your settings to get the 90fps target to stop frame drops.. Or you can also disable this via the Steam VR settings.

I am how ever certain there is an utilisation issue with VR in this game at the moment. time will tell.

my fps never goes over 30 when in game in VR, ive tried on ultra and low, no change what so ever.

just read the VR update post...apparently VR target is always 90 fps...i suppose thats what you meant.

however i still dont get any change from changing my settings, perhaps disabling the UI?

well disabling the hud brought me from 29/30 fps to 30/31 so i guess thats progress...

this baffles me

get a program like rivatuner and force it to 90 in the settings for that.

I'm having a similar issue and can get standing frame rates to 89 provided I turn off EVERY graphics feature, select LOW graphics, and no supersampling. But in-game, even at those settings fps drops into the 30s and stays there. And I'm running a pretty powerful rig as indicated below. Even if a solid 90 fps was achieved at these settings I wouldn't use it because the graphics quality is awful. Actually, even at ULTRA with AA turned on and  2.0 SS, the graphics quality is still disappointing enough to outweigh the immersive feel, and of course fps are in the low 20s...

a few things to check

in steamvr make sure you are in direct mode and not supersampling until you are getting 90fps initially maybe turn off vr dashbboard as well

turn off camera as well

try windowed mode vs fullscreen in game settings

disable v sync

try the fps lock in rivatuner

idk if supersampling is on or not, direct mode is on, and ill try rivatuner now

i tried using rivatuner, it said it was outdated and to use MSI afterburner, when i tried to run that after installing, it said parts are either corrupted, missing, or outdated...

any other ideas?

I had similar issues.

I capped at 20 to 30 fps. I played around with few settings and all of sudden, it went up to 90 fps.

I unfortunately dont know what i did.

Hope this helps.

Is awful graphic due to low resolution or mis-setup?

I do agree that graphic is awful.

I think even on 1024x resolution, graphic would be better than what is being displayed on my vr. I wish i can show here.

Example, when i compare graphic quality of 3d rift demo and il2, 3d demo is much superior.

Am I doing something wrong?

I think my set up is wrong.

I read about those seasoned participants mention about low resolution but not about graphic. They are related but can be seperate.

I just pretended that my cockpit is full of cohiba smoke but i am now interested if my awful graphic is due to incorrect set up.

A screen will typically use, say, 25%-30% of your vertical field of view, whereas the Rift/Vive does quite more (75%?). That's why the 1200 rows in the headset look considerably worse than 1200 rows on a screen.

Example, when i compare graphic quality of 3d rift demo and il2, 3d demo is much superior.

Those demos show you big characters/objects close to you, whereas simulations involve looking at small distant objects. Maybe that's the reason in difference of perception.

Yesterday I changed my settings back to Ultra 1440p for a test, then forgot to reset when I later played with the Rift. Obviously ATW was on for long periods of times, but the view was really breathtaking. Heavy clouds with maximal resolution and god rays, it was quite a sight!

i cant seem to get any improvement when messing with the settings

I learned how to and overclocked my gpu last night.

Got about 10 20 fps boost.

maybe i need a better cpu

cpu shouldnt be the bottleneck but you can probably find some basic overclock tutes to ramp it up to about 3.4ghz or so

supersampling in the steam vr is in the developers section of the settings, scroll down 2/3rds

check through your nvidia control panel settings and make sure things like VR pre rendered are set to 1 and all global settings to do with supersampling etc are off for now. go back to bare minimum specs for performance in global settings.

Minimum requirements for the game is a 2.8GHz intel core i5. Expect VR to require even more. VR needs two frames 45 times per second, at least.

The 970 might be a bit light, as the resolution of the frames sent to the VR headset is quite high (I read 2000+ lines, as the VR runtime will process the frames to counter lens distortion), but the dynamic resolution setting in the game can help with that. It's also possible to set pixel density below 1 if that's not enough.

IIRC there is a video of Jason flying in VR in the Moscow office where the PC he was using had a weaker GPU than that, so the GPU should not be a problem when it comes to reaching the minimum 45FPS.
