[RESEARCH] Color of canvas flight control surfaces

I have been told that the color of the canvas flight control surfaces is red. Is the color after doping or before? What is it's natural color? I am skinning because it has to do with how I will weather my 4K Bf-110G-2 template.

Red is sometimes used as a primer, but I doubt you would ever see or willingly fly an aircraft with control surfaces so badly weathered that it began to show.

I brought this up because 'The Star of Africa' had a fleck of paint missing on his rudders I believe and people said it was red. I just wanted to know if this was true.

I think that the colour is the dope, therefore the colour is post doping.
