l4dfanatic Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 i flew a mission with 2 pals, everything went rather smoothly, till we found a few fighters above our artillery. once i started looking up out of my cockpit and all around and such, while doing knife turns and other maneuvers, it kept going back to my VR space, for others with VR its the same area that shows when a game is loading up. the grey box in front of me has 3 dots on top and the 3 animated line/bar things on the bottom, no game picture in center... it will last for anywhere from a split second to like 5 or so, sometimes more, and idk why. the game seems to hover at 29/30 fps, if thats what the green numbers in the top right are, yet it FEELS like its 60 or more, no lag issues. this severely hindered my flying, as once it comes out of it im zoomed ahead kinda, like the game froze for a second and is now zooming to where the plane SHOULD be, caused me to crash. the server also showed like 120 ping? so it could be ping as well, i guess... any ideas guys? this makes the game unplayable, as im flying blind half the time.
l4dfanatic Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 it IS FRAME LAG! because i get the same issue when i click "login" when it lags there! how can i fix this though? again if i look at my flaps and such when im flying it looks so smooth, like its 60 or more fps, but the COUNTER is usually at 29 or 30, when i check it.
l4dfanatic Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 OK! the issue is framerate...idk if its from loading LODs or what. however, i realized that when not in VR mode, the game caps at 60 fps, regardless of settings, fullscreen or not, or what i set the "target fps" to. when in VR, it caps at 30...target fps option is shaded out. any ideas?
Wolf8312 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 its a problem with steam VR that happens very occasionally for me too. Make sure you do a clean delete and reinstallation of graphic drivers. It's very annoying but usually only happens when the computer has to load something big in game, it's much worse in DCS than BOS. Wish I knew too but basically steam VR kinda sucks, if it's happening too much though then it may be a problem on your end. Keep me posted.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) what hard drives are you using SSD, HDD, what speed are the caching on the hard drives anything that's below 128mb cache will be a problem and anything slower than 7200 rpms will be a problem. SSD's are way better for VR, and a 10,000 rpm HDD with 128mb cache is better. it's VR it could be a number of different issues.. bottlenecks CPU, Ram, Video, HDD, SSD, even motherboard... did you do the Steam VR test before buying? 71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) is your VR in correct space? Do you occasionally get a grey screen? if so check your lighting boxes, make sure placement is not hindered in seeing your VR goggles. Edited April 26, 2017 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
l4dfanatic Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 no thats not it mastiff...nothing is even close to blocking my headsets view to my lighthouses. its not a grey screen. if you've seen VR when its loading for the vive, it shows a box with a picture of the game in it and says "now loading" or "loading" or whatever. this same box pops up when a game freezes or is loading like if you pick a level and it starts loading it, i assume this is to avoid your vive showing a frozen frame and you moving your head and nothing moves around you. i've run my other VR games just fine, this one seems to like to sit at 30 FPS, and have this freezing issue. i've heard other people mention having lag issues when like 5+ planes are close by, dogfighting and such. also, when im not in VR mode, the game will sit near 60 FPS in the menu, and if i recall correctly, drop to 44 or so once in game.
l4dfanatic Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 GTX 970, 8 gigs of ram...i5 processor...if all that helps
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 (edited) GTX 970, 8 gigs of ram...i5 processor...if all that helps yeep 8gb is nearly not enough; windows 10? more than likely your Vraming from the Hard drive.. and that's most likely the bare minimums for VR.
