Excellent review. It resumes perfectly all community thoughts I´ve seen around here the last 2 days.

Tnx!

Good review only thing I don't much like is as you said, no clickable cockpits and the strange thumping head bumps. It doesn't really work because you can't feel anything so it just seems as if you are being shot or something.

But it is really fantastic, DCS is fantastic too but in a different way and performance isn't close to BOS though maybe that's understandable as DCS modules are like computers within computers.

I'd say overall they end up about equal many people are saying BOS is the new king but I think that DCS is a modern simulator and the game engines and modules are just too different to be compared. That said as it stands now, BOS is the better VR experience as it's hard for DCS to compete with a performance that feels so damned fluid! You wouldn't think it, but this fluidity adds enormously to the immersion, and I would also guess ones ability to precisely control the AC. Like you say in the old days I was misjudging everything and would often dive into the ground as a result, but now it's actually quite difficult to make those mistakes. The game feels ten times easier and while that's true too of DCS in comparison to track IR simming, it's not as noticeable.

I don't think WW2 DCS has much of a chance against BOS but I think it will be way better optimized than it is now. I really hope DCS Devs will take this as a challenge, start meeting deadlines, and better optimize the experience. Of course that's easy for me to say from my armchair!

Screen shots of Normandy to be honest look amazing kinda looks like a different game.

The flight models of BOS were impressive in track IR but VR has made me realize just how excellent and responsive they are.

Playing on a monitor is not like actually flying but more like manipulating a plane on the end of your nose! VR makes you like a child again, you can't wait to get home and fly!

Agreed, I've had to drag myself away from the PC! Can't stop going on BoS!

The head thing, I just think needs tweaking...the sound is like you're being shot as well (like you say) so the first time I did it I was looking all over the place - thinking I was getting shot some more as I hit my head more...then I realised what it was!!!

I really enjoy DCS, but right now I am not touching it. I love the modern stuff and the Spitfire is great. I'd be even happier with IL2 if it was on the Western Front as well...or carrier landings. That in VR...I'm just checking to make sure I am not drooling!

Ah... carrier landings using VR. Now that may prove a bit easier. :)

Well, I love VR. And I only bought it because of Flightsims. And its the best thing ever for flightsims. The problem is that you can forget trying to fly competetive multiplayer with it. And thats exactly the reason why I just sold my Oculus.
I will defiantely buy the second iteration. But there is no way around higher resolution and bigger FOV if you think of playing competetive multiplayer in VR.
I hope by the end of this year we will see new protoypes by HTC and Oculus and will be able to preorder by the first half of coming year.

While I get where you are coming from I've found it to be a good challenge and I'm actually finding that I am doing better in multiplayer now. Maybe I had a low base to start from, but I don't think so. I suppose everyone has a different experience. Going into Berloga, not a scenario I normally go for, I'm able to get kills with the Fw190. This is an aircraft that I have always struggled with. Right now I feel like I'm really getting to grips with it - mostly down to VR.

Dont wanna talk anyone out of it. God beware. Its just how I handle things.

I really cant wait for a 140°+ FOV and 4K HMD. I will be flying VR absolutely exclusively then. There is really nothing tha comes even close to immersion and sense of flight. Absolutely mindblowing.
