HunDread Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I don't notice too much (any) difference between 90 FPS and ASW kicking in which is a great news. Coming from simracing where it is absolutely essential to maintain 90 fps I was worried about this. I believe this is showing how good the implementation is. Or maybe it is the nature of the genre. But I would vote for the first if I had to. Any of you guys notice considerable difference?
dburne Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I don't notice much difference at all, certainly not in performance or smoothness. When ASW kicks in for me I am still very smooth and completely stutter free. The only thing I notice is some small graphic anomolies, like the gunsight flickering a little and couple other things here and there - certainly not enough to bother me. But I can tell when it is on, and pretty sure it is just the nature of the beast as frames are interpolated. I see it in other flight sim as well.
kissklas Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I force the ASW with oculus tray tools and the only artifacts I have is some warping on the gunsights towards the moving prop. Not really a problem, and it means I can run the game on max with a 970:)
marklar Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 I do notice when ASW kicks in and hate it. I lowered my settings to maintain constant 90fps.
von-Luck Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 ASW causes aircraft to show up as distorted triplets. 3 planes overlayed on each other and vibrating through each other. Obviously this makes identifying said plane quite difficult which has already caused several friendly fire incidents by yours truly. I often cannot identify an enemy until I have practically overtaken them or get a pristine top/bottom down look. spotting through your prop is of course difficult and in general I find the ASW affect quite displeasing. von Luck
mga Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 ASW causes aircraft to show up as distorted triplets. This is basically the worst problem with ASW, Whenever it kicks in and there is an aircraft flying in a different direction than you (across the canopy for example), you will see it doubled. It is breaking the immersion and make it much harder to id.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 yeah i tried it also and it did not work right..I set game to 1080P turned on Dynamic Res for 80fps and set it to 0.70 (720P) (720P being a little under 70% of 1080P (height wise)anyways ingame the resolution drop was not limited to just 30% less..At once point when i turned fast too look at something the ingame res dropped to about 480P or even 360P as the pixels on screen were about 1cm across :D
HunDread Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 Have the reticle anomalies and ghosting always been there since VR support? I didn't notice it at all at the beginning, but it's quite distracting in the last two days. Since 2.009 b or c? Not sure...

von-Luck Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Disabling ASW seems to have improved my experience. Gone are the wonky reticle issues and the triplet planes. That said with the FPS counter on I can still see dips as low as 45 FPS and even when playing on the lowest possible gfx settings these dips still occur. Time will tell if my stomach can handle the FPS dips. von Luck
HunDread Posted April 17, 2017 Author Posted April 17, 2017 How do you disable asw? I programmed ctrl+num1 on one of my hotas buttons but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
von-Luck Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Get the Oculus SDK tools kit (same one that lets you increase pixel density). von Luck
dburne Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 The Oculus Tray Tool makes it even easier, can set up a profile per game for Pixel Density and ASW settings. Set it and forget it ( if set to run at startup). I use it and love it.
coconut Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 OTT has voice commands which I use to turn spacewarp (or is it timewarp?) on and off on the fly. I had to change the words, however. The tool often mistook my "disable spacewarp" as "disable speech". I'm using "disable warp" instead.
