From what I understand you need to use SteamVR to play in VR. I am not aware of another way to do it if there is. Maybe someone else has more info. Is there a reason you are looking to avoid using SteamVR?

If the issue is you bought it through the site and not Steam, Steam will see you have it and add it to your Steam Library

well not really trying to avoid steam. i mean i have the shortcut of il 2 as a nonsteam game , i basically bought this game last month using the site, theres no way to get a steam key, thats only for early adopters.

so i activate steam VR and launch the game

then what do i do? theres no option to enable VR anywhere?

You enable vr within the game graphics settings...restart the game and you should be in.

That's not true. If you bought the game from the site and not Steam, you do not get a Steam key and it will never be added to your Steam library.

It's possible to link the executable as a generic app in Steam so you can run the program from the Steam library, but it's not the same as having a Steam key.

You are right. Thanks for correcting me. This was an option in the past or for early access or something. Glad OP is working fine now.
